Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have officially formalized their long-anticipated joint business partnership, marking a major milestone in air travel connectivity between Malaysia and Singapore. The announcement follows regulatory approvals from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) in January 2026 and the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) in July 2025, clearing the way for both carriers to deepen their commercial collaboration.
With the necessary approvals secured, MAB and SIA will progressively roll out initiatives aimed at enhancing connectivity, flexibility, and overall value for travelers flying between the two neighboring countries. Among the potential developments under the partnership are revenue-sharing arrangements on selected routes, joint fare products, coordinated flight schedules, and integrated corporate travel offerings across both markets. These measures are expected to provide customers with more seamless travel options and improved schedule choices, particularly on the heavily trafficked Malaysia–Singapore air corridor.
Malaysia Aviation Group Group Managing Director Datuk Captain Izham bin Ismail said the formalization of the joint business partnership aligns closely with the Group’s Long-Term Business Plan 3.0. He emphasized that the collaboration is a strategic move to position Malaysia Airlines for its next phase of growth. By combining complementary flight frequencies and aligning schedules, the partnership is expected to strengthen connectivity between Malaysia and Singapore while enhancing Malaysia Airlines’ scale, relevance, and network resilience across key regional and international markets.
Singapore Airlines Chief Executive Officer Mr. Goh Choon Phong also highlighted the broader significance of the partnership, noting that regulatory support from both countries reflects confidence in the benefits of deeper airline cooperation. He said the collaboration will strengthen the operational capabilities of both carriers while delivering greater value to customers across their combined networks. Beyond commercial gains, the partnership is seen as reinforcing the long-standing people-to-people ties and strong trade relationship between Singapore and Malaysia, contributing to economic growth and improved regional connectivity.
The formalized partnership builds on several years of incremental cooperation between the two airlines. Since signing their initial agreement in October 2019, MAB and SIA have steadily expanded their codeshare arrangements. Currently, Singapore Airlines codeshares on Malaysia Airlines flights between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, London Heathrow, and 15 domestic destinations within Malaysia. In turn, Malaysia Airlines codeshares on Singapore Airlines services between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and Penang, as well as long-haul routes linking Singapore to major cities such as London Heathrow, Rome, Zurich, Barcelona, Brussels, Copenhagen, Istanbul, Cape Town, and Johannesburg.
Customer benefits from the partnership have also extended beyond flight schedules. In February 2024, both airlines introduced reciprocal cross-participation between their frequent flyer programmes. This allows members of Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich programme and Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer programme to earn points and miles on selected flights operated by either carrier, further enhancing loyalty benefits for frequent travelers.
