Emirates SkyCargo Boosts Capacity with New Order for Five Boeing B777 Freighters

Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of the world’s largest international airline, Emirates, has announced a significant expansion of its fleet. In a joint statement with Boeing, the company revealed an order for five (05) additional Boeing B777 Freighters. This strategic move underscores Emirates SkyCargo’s commitment to meeting the growing global demand for cargo services.

The new order bolsters Emirates’ extensive fleet of Boeing aircraft, bringing its total order book to 245 widebody airplanes, which includes ten (10) B777 Freighters. This expansion is set to enhance the main deck cargo capacity by 30% by 2026. Emirates SkyCargo’s freighter fleet, currently consisting of B777 Freighters, B777 converted freighters, and B747 Freighters, will grow to 17 aircraft.

“Demand for our world-class product and services is growing exponentially, further amplified by Dubai’s Economic Agenda which aims to double foreign trade and reinforce the city’s position as a global trading hub. This investment in additional Boeing 777 capacity enables us to cater to customer demand and marks a step forward on our long-term strategic growth plan,” according to His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, emphasizing the strategic importance of this investment. He also highlighted that the next phase of their strategy will involve a comprehensive review of future freighter fleet options to ensure they are equipped to meet market demands effectively.

The Boeing B777 Freighter is renowned for its superior range and payload capabilities. It can fly up to 9,200 kilometers (4,970 nautical miles) and carry a maximum payload of 102 metric tons (112 tons), making it the most capable twin-engine cargo jet available. These features enable Emirates SkyCargo to offer long-range, nonstop flights connecting key markets, such as the Middle East with the U.S. and Europe, facilitating the transport of high-value cargo without the need for refueling stops.

Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed her satisfaction with the continued partnership with Emirates SkyCargo. “We are honored that Emirates SkyCargo, renowned for operational excellence and innovation, has once again selected the Boeing 777 Freighter to extend the reach of its global network,” she said. Pope reiterated Boeing’s commitment to supporting Emirates’ long-term strategic growth plan and acknowledged the trust Emirates has placed in the Boeing widebody family.

Boeing, as the market leader in cargo airplanes, provides over 90% of the worldwide dedicated freighter capacity, including new production and converted airplanes. The B777 Freighter is Boeing’s best-selling freighter airplane, with more than 265 deliveries to date. Boeing’s extensive experience and capabilities in developing, manufacturing, and servicing commercial airplanes, defense products, and space systems, coupled with a strong presence in over 150 countries, reinforce its position as a top U.S. exporter and a leader in the global aerospace industry.
