AirAsia Achieves Perfect 7-Star Safety Rating from AirlineRatings.com

AirAsia Group has once again secured a top-tier safety rating, earning the prestigious 7-star classification from AirlineRatings.com. This accolade, which reflects the airline’s continued commitment to operational safety, comes under the updated and more rigorous safety evaluation criteria of the global airline review site.

The enhanced rating system by AirlineRatings.com requires all rated airlines to hold the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification — a benchmark for maintaining the highest safety standards worldwide. AirAsia’s re-certification confirms its adherence to stringent safety protocols and underscores its dedication to ensuring passenger safety across its operations.

AirlineRatings.com Editor-in-Chief Geoffrey Thomas lauded the AirAsia Group for its exceptional safety performance. “The AirAsia Group has achieved an excellent safety rating under our enhanced criteria and is performing almost flawlessly. Their on-time performance is commendable, the incident rate is almost non-existent, and the airline’s safety performance is extremely impressive,” said Thomas.

The sustained 7-star rating is a result of AirAsia’s comprehensive safety measures, which include rigorous training for its staff, an experienced engineering team with over two decades of expertise, and stringent maintenance practices. The airline also upholds a robust internal safety management system (SMS) and a corporate governance structure featuring a Board-level Safety Review Board (SRB).

Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, expressed pride in the re-certification, highlighting the airline’s relentless focus on safety. “AirAsia Group has flown nearly 800 million passengers since its inception over 23 years ago, including close to 150 million guests since the pandemic. This recognition from AirlineRatings.com underscores our commitment to enhancing safety protocols, operational efficiency, and on-time performance,” Lingam stated.

AirAsia’s compliance with the highest global safety standards is further validated by certifications such as the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 145 approval, reflecting the airline’s commitment to maintaining the highest levels of safety and operational performance.

AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the company’s core value of safety. “Safety is always at the core of every decision we make, shaping our brand’s integrity and reputation. This recognition will only push us to continuously improve and deliver safe, reliable, and cost-efficient service so our guests can continue to fly with confidence, knowing they are in the best hands,” Isla said.

The AirAsia Group, which operates Airbus A320 and A330 family aircraft with excellent safety records and high dispatch reliability, has significant expansion plans, aiming to introduce new services and reach more destinations. This year, the Group has also been recognized with several awards, including Best Low-Cost Airline from Skytrax for 15 consecutive years and Best Low-Cost Airline Asia from the World Travel Awards for nine years running.

While the ratings include AirAsia Malaysia, AirAsia Philippines, AirAsia Indonesia, and AirAsia Thailand, the newly launched AirAsia Cambodia is not yet included but will be reviewed in the future.

With the latest recertification from AirlineRatings.com, AirAsia reaffirms its status as one of the safest low-cost carriers globally, committed to delivering a secure and reliable flying experience for its passengers.
