AirAsia Expands Its Indian Network with a New Route to Ahmedabad

AirAsia has unveiled plans to launch a new route from Kuala Lumpur to Ahmedabad, India’s first UNESCO World Heritage City. Set to take off on 01 May 2024, this marks the airline’s eleventh route to India and its third new route in 2024, solidifying AirAsia’s position in the South Asian market.

This venture also serves as AirAsia’s inaugural foray into the state of Gujarat, strengthening its presence in the region. The city of Ahmedabad, also known as Amdavad, is renowned for its sprawling landscapes, a significant cotton textile industry, serene lakes, ancient temples, and centuries-old mosques. History enthusiasts are drawn to the city’s 15th-century architecture, dating back to the rule of Sultan Ahmad Shah.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to announce yet another venture of AirAsia into Incredible India to the beautiful Ahmedabad  — with many more to follow suit — as we continue to celebrate the commendable initiative by the Malaysian government for the visa-free entry into Malaysia for Indian nationals. A city that is steeped in deeply-rooted traditions and heritage, Ahmedabad has something for everyone and I’m certain this route will be well received by travelers who are looking to sightsee its magnificent architecture or simply immerse themselves in the rich, local culture. When we launched our very first flight into India in 2008, our vision and mission had always been to enhance affordable connectivity between our two nations. Both Malaysia and India have plenty of untapped tourism potential and it has been amazing to see how travel has boomed in both countries in the last decade. AirAsia will continue to broaden our horizons of connectivity, which undoubtedly will encourage and allow for more people to travel to various unexplored gems of India affordably,” according to Bo Lingam, AirAsia Aviation Group CEO.

AirAsia’s new route to Ahmedabad is not just about enhancing connectivity; it opens doors for travelers to explore a city teeming with tourist hotspots. From its vibrant street food scene to being a hub for sought-after jewelry markets, Ahmedabad offers a rich cultural experience for visitors.

To celebrate this milestone, AirAsia is offering a one-off promotional fare starting from RM209 for flights from Kuala Lumpur and INR7,999 for flights from Ahmedabad to Kuala Lumpur. Travel enthusiasts can seize this opportunity by booking between now and 28 January 2024, for trips scheduled between 01 May 2024, and 19 March 2025, via the airasia Superapp or the official website.

AirAsia already operates an extensive network of routes from Kuala Lumpur to various cities in India, both in the north and south, through its short-haul airline, AirAsia Malaysia (flight code AK), and its medium-haul affiliate airline, AirAsia X (flight code D7). Additionally, starting February 2024, AirAsia will commence flights to Thiruvananthapuram in the southern state of Kerala, followed by Jaipur in April and Ahmedabad in May, further expanding its direct routes to India.

For travelers seeking affordable and accessible options, AirAsia offers Fly-Thru services, allowing passengers flying from India to Malaysia to use Kuala Lumpur as a connecting hub to access more than 130 destinations in 22 countries within AirAsia’s extensive network. As AirAsia continues to broaden its horizons, the airline remains committed to providing diverse and convenient travel options for its passengers.
