AirAsia Philippines Implements “No Limit on Check-In Baggage Count”

In a survey conducted by AirAsia Philippines at the end of 2021, it was revealed that baggage allowance is the top priority of traveling Filipinos during this new normal. Ancillary products are now considered by several airlines as key growth and revenue drivers in the age of revenge travel.

The Filipino airline has observed an uptrend in takeup rate across all of its baggage products as the country ushers in the holiday season. AirAsia domestic passengers are purchasing more baggage products as of the first week of September 2022 during their ticket purchase and even as they check in at the airport. This is evidenced by the 10% increase in takeup rate versus pre-pandemic records of the same period. International guests of the airline show higher demand for additional baggage allowance with more than half of passengers availing of the ancillary product.

Based on the airline’s historical data, baggage takeup rate — which corresponds to total baggage products availed versus passenger count — gradually increases at the start of September and peaks in January of the following year.

“Rebound travel is in full swing and we’re expecting activity to grow significantly as the holidays approach. Along with this is the increase in demand for products such as baggage allowance. We attribute this incremental month-on-month growth in baggage demand in Q4  to the pasalubong tradition and general gifting culture of Filipinos during Christmas. To support this, we maintain the competitiveness of our baggage products, which offer the best value-for-money our guests deserve and expect from AirAsia,” according to Steve Dailisan, Head of Communications and Public Affairs at AirAsia Philippines.

Filipino leisure travelers, Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), and foreign tourists flying to and around the Philippines are encouraged to leverage AirAsia Philippines’ “No Limit on Check-In Baggage Count” policy, which allows guests to load as many pieces of luggage as they require as long as the total weight does not exceed their baggage allowance. The airline also boasts the most competitive market pricing on baggage allowance from 20 kilos to 40 kilos, on top of the free 07 kilos for their carry-on cabin baggage.

Guests are advised to pre-book preferred baggage products along with their tickets via airasia Super App to save as high as 62% of the total cost compared to purchasing at the airport pre-departure.
