AirAsia Philippines Issues Warning About Unofficial Social Media Deals, Highlights Cybersecurity Concerns

AirAsia Philippines has raised an alert for its customers seeking economical flights, urging them to exercise additional vigilance, particularly when dealing with individuals claiming to represent the airline on social media platforms.

Reports have flooded AirAsia Philippines concerning various Facebook groups and individuals purporting to be affiliated with the airline. These unauthorized entities are engaging in unsanctioned transactions, offering discounted flights, tour packages, and other tourism-related services. Notably, some of these groups operating under the AirAsia banner have also been linked to promoting dubious online dealings, including deceptive job offerings that have resulted in phishing attacks and other online scams.

The globally acclaimed “World’s Best Low-Cost Airline” emphasizes that legitimate ticket purchases, promotional offerings, and ancillary product acquisitions are exclusively facilitated through the official airasia Superapp, the airline’s official website, and its extensive network of over 850 authorized travel agency partners situated across the country.

“As the pioneer in low-cost air travel and an integrated digital travel and leisure platform, we want to educate and safeguard our guests from scams and other forms of online fraud, especially since most transactions are at their fingertips. We would like to remind our guests that personal information may be collected through airasia.com or airasia Superapp only. The moment a group or an individual allegedly representing our brand solicits your personal information or asks for money, drop the transaction immediately and report them to proper authorities,” according to First Officer Steve Dailisan, AirAsia Philippines Communications and Public Affairs Country Head.

According to a comprehensive study conducted in Q4 2022 by Statista, a reputable online data collection platform, more than half (51%) of the 1,005 Filipino respondents polled reported falling victim to phishing attacks — a fraudulent practice that involves the unauthorized collection of sensitive personal information, credit card details, and passwords. Another alarming statistic reveals that 33% of participants experienced scams perpetuated by third-party sellers on legitimate online retail platforms.

Highlighting the urgency of this issue, the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group documented a staggering surge in cybercrime incidents, recording 4,104 cases between January and June of 2023.

In an effort to offer legitimate promotions and counteract the rising threats, AirAsia Philippines introduces the “Get Your Add-On: 2 Million airasia Points Giveaway.” This promotion, accessible through the airasia Superapp and airasia.com, grants customers booking flights and add-on ancillary services — such as increased baggage allowances, preferred seat selection, and travel insurance — the opportunity to win up to 500,000 airasia points. These points can be utilized for future flight and hotel reservations via https://www.airasia.com/aa/getyouraddon/.

AirAsia Philippines urges patrons to rely on the official airasia Superapp, the airline’s official website [airasia.com], and its verified social media channels. Travelers are further reminded to adhere to the stipulated government regulations and travel prerequisites, ensuring a seamless and stress-free journey.
