AirAsia Philippines Prepares for Philippine Airspace 6-Hour Shutdown on May 17

As the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) prepares for corrective maintenance and repair of the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) of the Communication Navigation System-Air Traffic Management (CNS-ATM) on 17 May 2023, AirAsia Philippines is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of its passengers.

In consultation with key industry stakeholders, including DOTr Undersecretary for Aviation Roberto Lim, CAAP Director General Capt. Manuel Antonio Tamayo, and MIAA Senior Assistant General Manager Bryan Co, AirAsia Philippines proposed rescheduling 21 flights on 16 May 2023; retiming 13 flights, and canceling 6 flights on 17 May 2023.

International flights to and from Taipei, Incheon, Bangkok (Don Mueang), and Kota Kinabalu, as well as domestic flights to and from Cebu, Bacolod, Davao, Puerto Princesa, Cagayan, Iloilo, and Tacloban, are among those affected by the proposed rescheduling.

The Filipino airline will also cancel flights from Manila to Davao, Cebu, and Bacolod, as well as their corresponding return flights, during the 6-hour repair period from 0001H to 0600H on Wednesday, 17 May 2023.

“The repair of the CNS-ATM system is a positive development towards ensuring safer skies for all, especially within the Philippine Flight Information Region (FIR). AirAsia Philippines is expressing its support to our industry partners in this crucial exercise. We’ve been working closely with them since the beginning to mitigate any inconvenience among our guests. This involves our request with the slot committee for the retiming of our flights that will be affected due to the repair,” according to Steve Dailisan, Communications and Public Affairs Country Head of AirAsia Philippines.

By taking these precautions, AirAsia Philippines hopes to minimize disruptions to its passengers’ travel plans while ensuring their safety during the scheduled maintenance of the Philippine airspace. The airline will notify guests in advance of the changes through SMS and registered email. In addition, the company has launched a comprehensive information dissemination campaign in partnership with its quad media partners and social media pages.

For AirAsia guests who will be affected by flight disruptions, the airline is offering Standard Recovery Options (SROs) that include options to move the flight, rebook, credit the account, or request a refund. These options are available through the AskBo feature on the airasia Superapp.
