AirAsia Philippines Sees Surge in Taiwan Flights Amid Cherry Blossom Season

With cherry blossom season in full bloom and Taiwan’s cool weather drawing more tourists, AirAsia Philippines has reported a significant increase in passenger traffic and advance bookings for the first quarter of 2025.

From January to March 2025, the airline has already flown 90% of the total passengers it recorded on Taiwan routes during the same period in 2024, reflecting a growing demand for travel to the island.

AirAsia Philippines currently operates twice-daily flights from Manila to Taipei and three weekly flights to Kaohsiung, making it easier for Filipino travelers to witness Taiwan’s breathtaking cherry blossoms. The bloom season typically lasts until early April, attracting nature lovers and photographers alike.

One of the best places to experience Taiwan’s cherry blossoms is the Sanzhi Cherry Blossom Trail. This 70-kilometer stretch of roads in Sanzhi is lined with over 15,000 cherry trees, primarily the indigenous Taiwan cherry variety, as noted by the Taiwan Tourism Administration. During peak season, the landscape transforms into a vibrant sea of red, white, and pink flowers, making Sanzhi a must-visit destination.

“Travel bookings consistently surge as winter begins, with demand remaining strong right through January and February — Taiwan’s peak cold season. It’s that time of the year where our guests are taking full advantage of the refreshing weather, and we’re here to make their journeys seamless and affordable for this special occasion. We want our guests to come back not just with photos, but with stories that are truly priceless — and that’s something we’re incredibly proud to be part of,” according to AirAsia Philippines Communications and Public Affairs Head First Officer Steve Dailisan.
