AirAsia Philippines Soars High with All-Female Flight & All-Women Lane Launch

In a remarkable tribute to women’s empowerment and gender inclusivity, AirAsia Philippines took to the skies with an exclusively female crew, marking the commencement of National Women’s Month and honoring International Women’s Day. With an impressive 37% of its workforce comprised of over 700 female Allstars, AirAsia Philippines acknowledges and celebrates the invaluable contributions of women to the airline’s daily operations.

“Gone are the days when women were enclosed in gender-biased roles. Today,  you’d see them sweating but never complaining despite being exposed to harsh elements, performing their functions as flight engineers, mechanics, ramp agents, and marshallers. Day in and out, the women of AirAsia always make sure that our beloved guests are all taken care of, leaving no tables unturned to ensure that everyone lives up to the brand promise of being the world’s best. A first-time flyer will no longer be terrified during his flight because those in command in the sky, pilots and cabin crew alike will always reassure them that safety is paramount to us, and that they can sleep soundly because we are experts who constantly train and update ourselves with the latest procedures,” according to Ricky Isla, CEO of AirAsia Philippines.

Commanding flights Z2-223, Z2-224, Z2-420, and Z2-421 were Captain Jasmin Timola and First Officer Nicolette Trisha Castaneda, both committed full-time mothers who have pursued successful careers in aviation. Senior Cabin Crew Mhea Salvador, along with Cabin Crew members Thalia Javier, Demii Marvick Fernando, and Jamessy Lee Asok warmly welcomed passengers aboard, creating a unique experience for those traveling to Boracay and Bohol over the weekend. The all-female flight serves as an inspirational showcase, proving that women can excel in traditionally male-dominated industries.

In a nod to the occasion, the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline dedicated two “All Women (check-in) Lanes” at NAIA Terminal 2, underscoring the airline’s commitment to recognizing the resilience and hard work of women.

Aligning with the Philippine Commission on Women’s advocacy for women empowerment, a special Women’s Day PAA-Talk session titled “Women Make It Work: Driving Inclusivity and Championing Equality in the Workplace” was held at the AirAsia Red Point headquarters. The session shed light on the pivotal role AirAsia Philippines plays in empowering female Allstars within the workplace, fostering an environment of equality.

“AirAsia’s initiative to mount an all-female flight to Boracay and Palawan showcases the capabilities and contributions of women in aviation. May this serve as an inspiration for young women and girls that they can thrive even in traditionally male-dominated career options. With women juggling various roles at home, work, business, and their communities everyday of their lives, AirAsia’s dedication of ‘All Women Lanes’ is one fitting and symbolic way to ease their multiple burdens and celebrate their contributions in our society, even for just a day. This move not only celebrates International Women’s Day but also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusivity in all sectors. #WEcanbeEquALL,” said Atty. Khay Ann Magundayao-Borlado, Officer-in-Charge of the Philippine Commission on Women. She commended AirAsia Philippines for its unwavering support of the celebration and its dedication to advancing the cause of women’s empowerment. The airline’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and championing equality sets a commendable example for the industry and beyond.
