AirAsia Philippines Tightens Cabin Baggage Rules for Smoother Flights

AirAsia Philippines is stepping up its efforts to improve passenger experience by strictly enforcing its cabin baggage policy starting 15 August 2024. The airline aims to streamline boarding procedures and ensure a more comfortable flight for all passengers.

Under the new guidelines, each passenger is limited to a total of 7 kilograms of cabin baggage, consisting of one main carry-on bag and one small personal item. The main bag, which can be a trolley bag or backpack, should not exceed 56 cm in height, 36 cm in width, and 23 cm in depth. It must fit in the overhead compartment. Meanwhile, personal items, such as a handbag or laptop bag, should be no larger than 40 cm by 30 cm by 10 cm and can be placed under the seat.

AirAsia emphasizes that multiple items tied or wrapped together will not be considered as one piece. In addition, items purchased at the airport are included in the cabin baggage allowance, except for duty-free items packed in a sealed Security Tamper-Evident Bag (STEB) with proof of purchase.

To avoid inconvenience, the airline recommends checking in any baggage that exceeds the specified weight or size limits. AirAsia will also implement stricter inspections at boarding gates, which may result in additional fees for oversized or overweight cabin baggage.

“Our cabin baggage policy is in place to support on-time departures by ensuring a faster and seamless boarding and disembarking process. By adhering to this policy, we help avoid congestion that can negatively impact the guest experience, particularly during boarding and disembarkation. Compliance also ensures fair access to overhead compartments for all guests, maintaining both safety and comfort,” according to AirAsia Communications and Public Affairs Head & First Officer Steve Dailisan.

AirAsia Philippines encourages passengers to familiarize themselves with the new cabin baggage policy to avoid any issues at the airport.

“Adhering to the cabin baggage policy is crucial to avoid unexpected higher charges at the airport and reduce congestion which affects the guest experience, especially during boarding and disembarkation. Compliance also helps maintain safety and comfort, while promoting consistency and fairness, ensuring a smoother travel experience for all guests,” Dailisan added.
