CAAP Highlights Aerosports Growth at 26th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) highlighted the growing global interest in aerosports as it joined the opening of the 26th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF) on 13 February 2026, at the New Clark City Stadium in Tarlac. With the theme “A Weekend of Everything that Flies,” this year’s festival showcased the increasing popularity of aviation sports and drew both local and international pilots and enthusiasts to one of the country’s most anticipated aerial events.

CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario, alongside PIHABF Event Director Capt. Joy Roa, led the ceremonial first balloon burn to formally inaugurate the festival. The event set the tone for a weekend filled with aerial displays, hot air balloon flights, and interactive activities designed to promote aviation awareness among youth and enthusiasts alike.

In his remarks during the opening ceremonies, Lt. Gen. Del Rosario expressed hope that the festival would continue to inspire the next generation of aviators and elevate Philippine aviation on the global stage. The CAAP chief emphasized the dual role of events like PIHABF in both fostering interest in aerosports and strengthening aviation safety and standards in the country.

Beyond the festivities, the Director General met with officials from the Airsports Federation of Asia (AFA) and representatives from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, the United States, and Hong Kong. The discussions centered on the global expansion of aerosports, harmonizing regulations across countries, promoting aviation-related tourism, and exploring opportunities for international competitions.

CAAP highlighted that the growing interest in aerosports presents significant opportunities for tourism and youth engagement, particularly as aviation sports continue to gain traction across Asia. However, the authority also stressed the importance of developing forward-looking and internationally aligned regulatory frameworks to ensure the safety, security, and sustainability of Philippine aviation.

The Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta remains one of the country’s premier aviation gatherings, attracting both amateur and professional pilots from around the world. Over the years, it has grown into a major platform for showcasing aviation technology, fostering community engagement, and promoting the Philippines as a key destination for aerial sports tourism.

With events like PIHABF, the Philippines continues to position itself at the forefront of the regional aerosports scene, combining entertainment, education, and industry development. The collaboration between CAAP, the Airsports Federation of Asia, and international partners underscores the country’s commitment to safe, responsible, and sustainable aviation growth.
