Cathay Cargo Terminal commemorated its 10th year of full-scale operations at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) by introducing a new international marketing brand and hosting a grand celebration in the heart of Hong Kong.
The occasion was marked by a prestigious VIP dinner event graced by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Algernon Yau. Yau, a guest of honor at the gathering, shared anecdotes from his tenure as the first Chief Executive Officer of Cathay Cargo Terminal during its construction and inauguration in 2013, when he was affiliated with the Cathay Group.
“It was great to be able to celebrate our special day with so many of our customers and special friends of the terminal. While it is important to look back and celebrate our success, we are incredibly focused on the future, and in particular we will be looking to build on and expand our success in our three key areas of Digital Leadership; Sustainability Leadership; and further expanding our footprint into the Greater Bay Area of southern China, as we continue to build on our important role in ensuring Hong Kong maintains its position as the world’s largest air cargo hub,” according to Tom Owen, Cathay Director Cargo and Cathay Cargo Terminal Chair.
The guest list further included influential figures from the government, the Airport Authority Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong logistics industry, alongside airline customers and freight forwarders. In a show of appreciation, Cathay Cargo Terminal also organized a special luncheon for its workforce, tenants, and subcontractors.
As part of its global rebranding strategy, the terminal bid farewell to its previous identities, “Cathay Pacific Services Limited” and “Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal,” which formerly represented the operating company and the facility, respectively. These names have now been merged into a rejuvenated, all-encompassing marketing brand: “Cathay Cargo Terminal.”
“This single refreshed brand more clearly represents our focus on the cargo terminal business and our vision to become the world’s most customer-centric air cargo terminal. Our 10-year anniversary is the perfect time to roll out our new brand internationally as we look towards future growth with HKIA’s Three-Runway System being fully operational from next year,” said Mark Watts, Cathay Cargo Terminal Chief Operating Officer.
This rebranding initiative seamlessly aligns with the Cathay Group’s broader brand overhaul and the recent relaunch of Cathay Cargo, underscoring the terminal’s unwavering commitment to the ambitious “Move Beyond” mission.
Cathay Cargo Terminal was conceived to bring cutting-edge technology to Hong Kong’s terminals and elevate cargo terminal service standards. In the course of the past decade, it has blossomed into one of the world’s premier and most technologically advanced cargo handling facilities, successfully managing over 11 million cargo unit load devices (ULD) for 1.4 million flights and processing an astounding 16.3 million tonnes of cargo.
Currently, the terminal serves a noteworthy roster of 18 scheduled airline customers at HKIA. Its distinctiveness lies in its customer-centric approach, with a strong focus on tailor-made solutions and delivering world-class service. This dedication ensures that Cathay Cargo Terminal’s customers can place their trust in the safe, reliable, and efficient processing of their shipments, each and every time.
