Cathay Group Hits 100,000-Passenger Milestone in a Day, Concludes Rebuilding Journey on a High Note

The Cathay Group, encompassing Cathay Pacific and HK Express, has achieved a landmark milestone in its post-pandemic recovery. On 15 December 2024, the Group transported 100,856 passengers in a single day — the highest figure since embarking on its rebuilding journey two years ago.

This milestone underscores the robust demand for air travel as the aviation industry rebounds. Notably, Cathay Group exceeded the 100,000-passenger mark on eight separate occasions during the year-end holiday season, which concluded on 31 December 2024.

Ronald Lam, Chief Executive Officer of the Cathay Group, expressed his gratitude for this achievement, highlighting the dedication of the Group’s teams worldwide, “We are thrilled to have concluded the year 2024 on a high note with yet another milestone. The past year saw unprecedented progress and expansion for the Cathay Group, thanks to our people’s dedication and efforts. In particular, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our global frontline teams, who have been working tirelessly over the holiday period to ensure that our customers enjoy a smooth journey as they explore new destinations or reunite with their friends and families during the holidays.”

The Cathay Group has now successfully concluded its rebuilding phase, which focused on expanding flights and destinations. “A new chapter has begun for Cathay,” Lam added.

In 2024, Cathay Pacific resumed its seasonal service to Cairns, Australia, and announced new long-haul routes for 2025, including Hyderabad, India; Dallas, USA; and Munich and Brussels in Europe. HK Express, meanwhile, has enhanced its network with the addition of Shizuoka and plans to launch a new service to Sendai, Japan, this January.

By January 2025, the Group expects to restore 100% of pre-pandemic flight capacity, serving 100 destinations worldwide by the end of the year.

With Hong Kong’s Three-Runway System now operational, the Cathay Group reaffirms its commitment to positioning the city as a global aviation hub, strengthening connections between Hong Kong, Mainland China, and the rest of the world.
