Cebu Pacific Boosts Aircraft Deliveries to Record 21 in 2023 to Meet Surging Air Travel Demand

Cebu Pacific (CEB) has announced a significant increase in its aircraft deliveries for the year 2023, reaching a record high of 21 from the previously planned 15. The move comes as the airline seeks to enhance its operational resiliency in response to the ever-growing demand for air travel in the region.

The most recent addition to Cebu Pacific’s fleet arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, as the ninth aircraft delivery for 2023. This brand-new Airbus A321neo (with tail number RP-C4133), equipped with cutting-edge New Engine Option (NEO) technology, completed its journey from Airbus’ Delivery Centre in Hamburg, Germany, utilizing blended sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for its flight. The adoption of sustainable fuel solutions marks a significant step towards the airline’s commitment to environmental conservation.

“This aircraft delivery allows us to increase our operational resilience while continuing to provide safe, reliable, and affordable air travel to our passengers. Our ongoing re-fleeting with new-generation, fuel-efficient aircraft and our continued use of sustainable aviation fuel will also help our decarbonization efforts in making the aviation industry more sustainable,” according to Alex Reyes, CEB Chief Strategy Officer.

Out of the 21 aircraft deliveries expected this year, 17 are NEOs, representing a pivotal move towards a more fuel-efficient fleet for the airline. Four (04) Current Engine Option (CEOs) aircraft will be leased on a short-term basis. Cebu Pacific has set a visionary goal to fully transition to an all-NEO fleet by 2028, reaffirming its dedication to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.

Earlier this year, on June 30, CEB received a state-of-the-art A320neo aircraft from Airbus’ final assembly line in Tianjin, China. This aircraft, like the A321neo, was powered by SAF with a blend of 41%. The use of sustainable aviation fuel has become a critical component of CEB’s efforts to implement eco-friendly initiatives and achieve its environmental targets.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), also known as a drop-in fuel, bears similar characteristics to conventional jet fuels and does not require any modifications to aircraft or engines, ensuring seamless integration. SAF delivers an outstanding up to 80% reduction in carbon emissions throughout its lifecycle compared to traditional jet fuel, making it a crucial tool for the aviation industry to combat climate change.

As the demand for air travel continues to soar, Cebu Pacific is making commendable strides to meet the rising expectations while concurrently advancing its sustainability endeavors. By adopting the latest aircraft technology and embracing sustainable fuel solutions, the airline is positioning itself as a trailblazer in the drive towards a more environmentally-conscious aviation sector.
