Cebu Pacific celebrated the inaugural flight of its new Manila (MNL | RPLL) – Chiang Mai (CNX | VTCC) route on 29 October 2024, strengthening its network and opening new travel possibilities for Filipinos. With this launch, Cebu Pacific becomes the only Philippine airline to offer direct flights to the popular northern Thai city, providing travelers a quicker, more affordable journey to this scenic region.
The new route will operate three times weekly, with flights scheduled every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The airline held a launch event at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), attended by distinguished guests including His Excellency Mr. Tull Traisorat, Thailand’s Ambassador to the Philippines, and Ms. Yatika Kaewborisoot, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
At the event, Cebu Pacific President and Chief Commercial Officer Xander Lao emphasized the airline’s dedication to expanding its reach and connecting more Filipinos to unique global destinations. “For years, Cebu Pacific has been dedicated to connecting Filipinos not only to essential destinations, but also to popular places that were previously difficult to reach. More than adding to Cebu Pacific’s growing network, the launch of the Manila-Chiang Mai also serves as a testament to Cebu Pacific’s commitment to making air travel more accessible for every Juan,” Lao said.
By offering direct flights between Manila and Chiang Mai, Cebu Pacific cuts travel time by up to 8 hours, eliminating the need for multiple layovers. The airline estimates that this direct route will also reduce travel costs by as much as 64% for passengers. Chiang Mai is known for its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and popular attractions like the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep temple and the annual Lantern Festival each November, drawing visitors worldwide.
To mark the maiden flight, Cebu Pacific and the Tourism Authority of Thailand treated passengers to Thai snacks and travel kits, adding a cultural touch to the journey’s launch. CEB continues to serve an expansive network, with flights to 35 domestic and 26 international destinations spanning Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
