Cebu Pacific Receives SAF-Powered A320neo Aircraft Delivery from China

Cebu Pacific has taken delivery of its eighth aircraft for 2023. The brand new Airbus A320neo (New Engine Option), assembled at the Tianjin, China final assembly line (FAL), has been acquired to meet the growing demand for air travel in the region.

Flight CEB4138 (RP-C4138) operated using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) with a 41% blend landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA/MNL) at around 1941H tonight. The use of this environmentally friendly fuel marked a major milestone for Cebu Pacific’s sustainable aviation initiatives.

“We are thrilled to welcome this delivery, which is a major milestone for both Airbus and Cebu Pacific. This is in line with our fleet plan which aims to support our overall growth ambitions as travel demand continues to recover,” according to Michael Szucs, CEB Chief Executive Officer.

Cebu Pacific has set a target of receiving a total of 15 aircraft deliveries in 2023. To support its objective of transitioning to a more fuel-efficient fleet, the airline has ordered 10 brand new Airbus NEO aircraft for this year. By 2028, Cebu Pacific aims to operate an all-NEO fleet. In addition, the airline will be acquiring five (05) more aircraft through long-term lease agreements.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a drop-in fuel that possesses similar characteristics to conventional jet fuels. It requires no modifications to the aircraft or engines and has no adverse effects on performance. By utilizing SAF, Cebu Pacific can achieve up to an 80% reduction in carbon emissions across the fuel’s lifecycle, contributing to the airline’s commitment to sustainability.

The newly acquired A320neo is a narrow-body aircraft that offers 188 seats, manufactured by the renowned seat maker Recaro. Passengers can expect enhanced comfort from the slim and ergonomic design of these seats. This new aircraft boasts a 20% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to its predecessor, consuming as little as 2.46 kilograms of fuel per seat per 100 kilometers.

“Cebu Pacific has been the Philippine leader in propelling decarbonization in the aviation industry. This aircraft delivery, powered by SAF, demonstrates our commitment to providing safe, convenient, and reliable travel for our customers while building a greener and more sustainable future,” said Alex Reyes, CEB Chief Strategy Officer.

Cebu Pacific’s investment in modern and eco-friendly aircraft, powered by sustainable aviation fuel, demonstrates its dedication to reducing its environmental impact while meeting the increasing demand for air travel. With these initiatives, the airline aims to lead the way in sustainable aviation practices in the Philippines and beyond.
