Converge ICT Solutions Inc. has completed the rollout of complimentary public WiFi across Terminals 1 and 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). This achievement underscores a pivotal moment in the company’s FREE Pure Fiber Wi-Fi endeavor, aimed at furnishing free internet access at selected airports in the Philippines. Collaborating with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and various airport operators, Converge marks a significant milestone in fostering seamless digital connectivity for travelers.
Passengers traversing NAIA Terminals 1 and 2 can now relish in high-speed internet connectivity for a duration of two hours upon logging into the Converge network through designated SSIDs. Subscribers with GoFiber accounts are entitled to an additional six hours of complimentary internet access across five devices by providing their account details. Similarly, prepaid fiber internet subscribers under the Surf2Sawa brand can avail themselves of an extra six hours of WiFi access for two devices upon registration.
Dennis Anthony Uy, CEO and Co-Founder of Converge, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “With the fiber connection now established in Terminals 1 and 2, Converge has completed the fiber-powering of NAIA and will be available for use of the four terminals whose combined traffic was estimated at 45 million passengers in 2023. We’re privileged to give reliable and seamless connectivity to the country’s busiest transit hub. There will be several more in the offing for our free public wifi program for the rest of the year.”
Covering an expansive area of 148,000 square meters, including gates, retail spaces, lounges, offices, and medical facilities, Terminals 1 and 2 are outfitted with 105 access points, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for passengers.
In a gesture of support towards overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), Converge extends free connectivity to the newly inaugurated OFW Lounge in NAIA Terminal 1, offering round-the-clock access at no cost to departing OFWs.
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista emphasized the significance of this development, stating, “We are glad to now have this service in Terminals 1 and 2, we now have free wifi in all terminals in Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Connectivity is really important for passengers, now that it’s considered a necessity.”
The completion of the WiFi deployment at Terminals 1 and 2 was celebrated in a ceremony held earlier today, organized by the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) in collaboration with the Department of Transportation and the local government of Pasay.
Expressing gratitude for the initiative, Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Eric Ines remarked, “We wish to thank Converge for this project. This latest development will definitely enhance the continuing service that the Manila International Airport Authority is providing to our travelers. We certainly look forward to more collaboration with Converge ICT in the near future.”
Looking forward, Converge envisions expanding its FREE WiFi coverage to other domestic and international airports in the Philippines, including Francisco Bangoy International Airport, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Bacolod-Silay Airport, Iloilo International Airport, Laoag International Airport, Pagadian Airport, Tacloban Airport, and Zamboanga International Airport.
