Davao International Airport (Francisco Bangoy International Airport; RPMD; DVO) has resumed regular flight operations sooner than anticipated, with the completion of extensive runway repairs announced yesterday, 08 May 2024.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Area Center 11, the final phase of runway refurbishment concluded last 07 May 2024, with a thorough inspection verifying the integrity of all segments of the asphalt overlay repair.
CAAP Area Center Manager Rex Obcena affirmed that while some minor adjustments are required in certain sections, these will be swiftly addressed during daylight hours to minimize disruption, in close consultation with the air traffic control tower.
The Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) regarding the ongoing project is slated for removal today, or upon satisfactory resolution of any remaining issues. This development marks a significant advancement over the initial target date of 31 May 2024.
Since 08 April 2024, the Davao International Airport’s runway has undergone nightly closures lasting four hours, from 0001H to 0400H, aimed at expediting the rehabilitation process. The project encompassed an area of 1,200 square meters, involving the removal of 2-inch thick deteriorated asphalt pavement, application of emulsified asphalt tack coat, installation of hot bituminous asphalt mixture, and reapplication of existing runway markings.
The completion of this project ahead of schedule signifies a milestone achievement for Davao International Airport, underscoring its commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of air travel for passengers and airlines alike.
