Delta Air Lines Expands Fleet with 20 Airbus A350-1000 Aircraft Order

In a strategic move to enhance its fleet with modern and efficient widebody aircraft, Delta Air Lines has announced the placement of an initial order for 20 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. This addition will mark the introduction of the A350-1000 model into Delta’s existing fleet.

“We are thankful for Delta’s continued confidence in Airbus’ solutions to meet its fleet needs. Delta was the first U.S. airline to operate the A350-900, and is doing so with great success. Delta now welcomes the A350-1000, which will open even more opportunities for the airline and its customers. We are proud that our aircraft serve the entirety of Delta’s impressive global network as this stellar airline takes fleet efficiency to the next level,” according to Christian Scherer, Chief Executive Officer of the Commercial Aircraft Business at Airbus.

With a current operational strength of over 450 Airbus aircraft covering the entire Airbus product spectrum from A220 to A350-900, Delta Air Lines has also committed to acquiring more than 200 additional Airbus aircraft, further solidifying its partnership with the European aerospace giant.

The forthcoming integration of the A350-1000 into Delta’s fleet is expected to bring about operational advantages, primarily through the aircraft’s enhanced fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and lower overall operating and maintenance costs. Passengers will also reap the benefits of the Airbus Airspace cabin, renowned for its spacious and quiet interior, wide seats, high ceilings, and customizable ambient lighting. These features are specifically designed to minimize fatigue and alleviate jet lag during extended flights.

“The A350-1000 will be the largest, most capable aircraft in Delta’s fleet and is an important step forward for our international expansion. The aircraft complements our fleet and offers an elevated customer experience, with more premium seats and best-in-class amenities, as well as expanded cargo capabilities,” said Ed Bastian, Chief Executive Officer of Delta.

Recognized as the world’s most modern and efficient widebody aircraft, the A350 is a leader in the 300-410 seater category for long-range flights, covering distances of up to 9,700 nautical miles. Boasting a clean sheet design, the A350 incorporates cutting-edge technologies, advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials, and state-of-the-art engines. Collectively, these elements contribute to a 25% improvement in fuel efficiency, operating costs, and CO₂ emissions, while also achieving a remarkable 50% reduction in noise footprint compared to previous-generation competitors.

The A350 has garnered widespread global acclaim, with over 1,206 orders received from 58 customers worldwide. Delta Air Lines’ latest order underscores the airline’s commitment to staying at the forefront of aviation technology and providing its passengers with a superior and sustainable travel experience.
