Eve Air Mobility has unveiled the names of three crucial suppliers for its revolutionary electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The disclosure, made through a press release, identifies Garmin® as the avionics supplier, Liebherr-Aerospace as the provider of flight control actuators, and Intergalactic as the supplier of the thermal management system.
“We are looking forward to working with each of our suppliers as we progress with our eVTOL development. Each of our suppliers undergoes a very stringent review that evaluates not only performance and quality of their product, but also their dedication to continuous improvement and customer support and satisfaction. We are looking forward to a long-term working relationship with each of our suppliers,” said Johann Bordais, CEO of Eve Air Mobility.
Garmin, a prominent player in the aviation industry, will furnish Eve’s eVTOL with the cutting-edge G3000® Integrated Flight Deck. This system boasts large-format, lightweight, high-resolution glass displays that seamlessly integrate with Eve’s vehicle management and flight control systems. Specifically tailored for eVTOL needs, the flight deck features an intuitive touchscreen interface, reducing pilot workload by granting direct access to a comprehensive suite of avionics capabilities.
Liebherr, renowned for its precision gears and dependable actuation, will be responsible for developing electromechanical actuators (EMA) for the fly-by-wire flight controls of Eve’s eVTOL. These actuators, powered by the aircraft’s electrical system, are designed to ensure high performance, configurability, and simplified maintenance.
Intergalactic’s role is equally critical, as the company will provide the thermal management system crucial for maintaining an optimal temperature range for various equipment, including batteries and electronic components. In addition, the system will contribute to ensuring a comfortable temperature within the aircraft cabin.
These three suppliers complement the initial trio announced at the Paris Air Show earlier this summer. Nidec Aerospace LLC, a joint venture between Japan’s Nidec Corporation and Brazil’s Embraer, is tasked with providing the electric propulsion system, while BAE Systems is supplying the energy storage system. DUC Hélices Propellers is responsible for delivering the rotors and propellers.
Eve’s eVTOL aircraft follows a lift+cruise configuration, featuring eight dedicated propellers for vertical flight and fixed wings for cruising. The innovative design incorporates an electric pusher powered by dual electric motors, providing propulsion redundancy, high performance, and enhanced safety. Apart from its operational advantages such as lower cost and optimized structures, the eVTOL aims to deliver efficient thrust with minimal sound.
In a strategic move, Eve announced in July that its inaugural eVTOL production facility would be situated in Taubaté, São Paulo, Brazil. The company has already commenced assembling its first full-scale eVTOL prototype, with a planned test campaign scheduled for 2024. The eVTOL is anticipated to begin deliveries and enter into service by 2026.
Simultaneously, Eve is actively working on developing a comprehensive suite of agnostic service and operations solutions. This includes the creation of a unique Urban Air Traffic Management (Urban ATM) software, aimed at optimizing and scaling Urban Air Mobility operations on a global scale. The company continues to make strides toward shaping the future of sustainable air transportation.
