Cebu Pacific (CEB) proudly launched its inaugural Pride Flight (5J905; Manila to Boracay) on 05 June 2023, marking the beginning of its vibrant Pride Month celebration. The airline’s groundbreaking initiative underscores its unwavering dedication to promoting diversity, inclusivity, and equality for all individuals, fondly referred to as “Juan.”
What set this flight apart was its exceptional crew, comprising members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community. Captain Bensie Tan, Captain Bettina Mercado, First Officer Lorenz Montinola, First Officer Chezka Carandang, Christopher Ian Mau, Kevin Jason Baetiong, Kimberly Naval, Niña Marudo, and Mikee Vitug formed the talented team at the helm of this groundbreaking Pride Flight.
“We take great pride in the diversity and inclusivity that define Cebu Pacific’s culture. Throughout the years, we have created a safe space for every Juan and have consistently progressed towards celebrating individuality. This year, we are thrilled to pay tribute to our moment makers from the Pride community by featuring them on a special flight — a truly remarkable way to kick off the celebration of Pride Month,” according to Candice Iyog, CEB Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer.
Passengers on board were treated to a delightful experience filled with Pride-themed giveaways, exciting games, and an exclusive opportunity to win complimentary roundtrip domestic flight tickets, among other surprises.
The Pride Flight, although an exceptional event in itself, serves as merely the initial chapter in CEB’s extensive lineup of activities dedicated to Pride Month. Throughout June, the airline has planned numerous training sessions and online courses, all aimed at fostering a workplace environment that promotes equity and advocates for gender sensitivity.
In further support of the cause, Cebu Pacific has organized a series of fundraising events to assist the non-profit organization Golden Gays. The proceeds generated from these activities will be dedicated to providing aid to elderly members of the Golden Gays, contributing to their well-being and happiness.
CEB has a history of spearheading progressive initiatives in the aviation industry. In 2019, the airline made headlines by employing the first transwomen cabin crew members, Jess Labares and Mikee Vitug. This milestone achievement served as a testament to Cebu Pacific’s unwavering commitment to cultivating an inclusive and supportive workplace environment.
