Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) has entered into an agreement with the Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD) to expand and enhance its gateway at Clark International Airport (CRK | RPLC). This development is poised to provide advanced capabilities, benefitting local businesses aiming to bolster their international presence and supporting the increasing demands of e-commerce, freight, and cold-chain shipments across the Asia Pacific region.
In a ceremony held at the FedEx Gateway, several key figures were present to demonstrate their support for the expansion. Among them were Joshua Bingcang, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), Arrey Perez, President of Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC), and Noelle Meneses, Vice President for Business Development and Business Enhancement at Clark Development Corporation (CDC).
The new facility, once completed, will more than double the size of the current gateway. This expansion will significantly enhance support for importers, exporters, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and heavy-weight freight shippers, providing greater and more reliable access to international markets.
“We are pleased to sign this agreement that symbolizes our intent to kick-start the expansion of our gateway at Clark. Since our establishment in 1984 in the Philippines, we remain committed to continuously enhancing our network and service offerings to support the growing needs of our customers and strengthen their connection to overseas markets. This expansion is a testament to our strong commitment in facilitating cross-border trade and optimizing the country’s supply chain capabilities,” according to Maribeth Espinosa, Managing Director of FedEx Philippines.
This strategic move aligns with the shared vision of BCDA, CDC, and LIPAD to transform CRK into a premier global civil aviation logistics hub. Plans for additional facilities, such as aprons and taxiways, will further facilitate FedEx operations, improving cargo handling and fostering growth in the logistics sector. These developments are expected to generate economic benefits for the northern Luzon region, creating job opportunities and acting as an economic stimulus for the local community.
“We proudly celebrate this collaboration with FedEx Philippines for their Clark Gateway expansion within the LIPAD project land. This landmark agreement embodies our unwavering commitment to fostering sustainable development and economic vitality in the region, ensuring a brighter future for us, and for the whole community,” said Noel Manankil, President and CEO of Luzon International Premiere Airport Development Corp. (LIPAD).
FedEx first unveiled its gateway in Clark in October 2021, aiming to support local businesses and e-commerce growth. The state-of-the-art 17,000-square-meter facility can sort up to 9,000 parcels per hour and features a dedicated 630-square-meter freight-handling area, enabling FedEx to deliver reliable service more efficiently.
