FedEx Introduces Game-Changing Vietnam Service, Shaving a Day Off Shipments to the Philippines

FedEx Express, a global leader in express transportation services and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., has unveiled an innovative intercontinental service that promises to revolutionize the shipping industry between Vietnam and the Philippines. This groundbreaking development is also set to bolster connectivity across Asian, Middle Eastern, African, and European markets.

Commencing 31 October 2023, FedEx is rolling out an advanced flight service powered by a dedicated B767 freighter, operating four nights a week from Ho Chi Minh City. This new route will act as a crucial bridge connecting Asia and Europe via the FedEx Asia Pacific Hub in Guangzhou, China.

Exporters from the southern region of Vietnam are set to benefit significantly from this new flight service, as it guarantees expedited delivery times for shipments destined for the Philippines and major Asian markets. Businesses in southern Vietnam can now expect their goods to reach these key destinations within a mere one business day, while European-bound shipments will take just two business days.

“We continue to transform our air network to offer differentiated service for our customers and that includes building capacity and creating faster connections to meet demand. The Tiger Economies of Southeast Asia continue to grow at an accelerated pace, with a forecast of 4.9% growth in 2024. What we see happening in Vietnam is a great example of these regional trends.  Our enhanced service in Vietnam is part of our journey to build a more flexible, efficient, and intelligent network and deliver an outstanding customer experience,” according to Kawal Preet, President of Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa Region at FedEx Express.

The introduction of these cutting-edge flights is a major enhancement to FedEx’s existing offerings. In addition to their current five flights to Asia, Europe, and the United States — consisting of four daily morning flights via the FedEx South Pacific Hub in Singapore and one evening flight through the Asia Pacific Hub — the new service will augment the company’s capacity and further fortify its support for businesses aiming to capitalize on the burgeoning growth potential of the region.

Southeast Asia, renowned for its dynamic manufacturing hubs, is diversifying its product range to include high-value goods and services. Multilateral free trade agreements, such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), are forging strong ties, cementing the region’s status as an increasingly vital trading partner on the global stage.

“The improved transit time from Vietnam to the Philippines will support the growth in trade volumes between both markets. With the ratification of RCEP, we anticipate increased investments within the world’s largest free trade area, stimulating economic growth in Southeast Asia,” said Maribeth Espinosa, Managing Director of FedEx Express Philippines.

FedEx has been an essential partner in facilitating cross-border trade with Vietnam since it established operations in the country back in 1994. With the introduction of this groundbreaking flight service, local businesses that cater to international customers can gain a significant competitive edge through faster delivery times. This announcement reaffirms FedEx’s unwavering commitment to enhancing services within Vietnam and fortifying its operations across the Asian, Middle Eastern, African, and European (AMEA) regions.
