A spectacle of airborne marvels is set to captivate the skies of Albay as the province prepares to host the esteemed “A Weekend of Everything that Flies” event from 03 to 05 May 2024. The Old Legazpi Airport will serve as the venue, offering attendees a breathtaking view of the iconic Mayon Volcano as a backdrop for the festivities.
Initiated by Ako Bicol party-list representative, Cong. Zaldy Co, this event marks a significant milestone as it transitions from its traditional home in Clark, Pampanga, to the scenic landscapes of the Bicol region. Drawing inspiration from renowned hot air balloon festivals globally and the daily flights of Cappadocia, Turkey, Co envisions this international spectacle as a catalyst for invigorating tourism across Albay and its neighboring areas.
Enthusiasts and spectators can expect a diverse array of hot air balloons, featuring whimsical shapes from around the world. Among the highlights are Brazil’s Bidu, the UK’s Bella and Buster (different dogs), the USA’s Party Balloon, the UK’s Dyno (a dinosaur), and Belgium’s Princess Nelly (an elephant), to name a few. Adding to the excitement, the Global Stars aerobatic team will thrill audiences with daring aircraft stunts, complemented by daytime smoke trails and nighttime pyrotechnics.
The festivities extend beyond hot air balloons, with drone light shows, fireworks displays, and the enchanting Night Glow event, where illuminated hot air balloons dance to synchronized music against the night sky. Throughout the event grounds, visitors can explore exhibitions showcasing paramotors, kites, FPV drones, ultralight planes, and even car drifters, all set against the picturesque backdrop of the runway.
Food enthusiasts can indulge in Bicol’s renowned local cuisine and products at the “Fly Market” and various food booths scattered across the venue. While admission to the event is free, attendees interested in hot air balloon flights, tethered rides, tandem skydiving, or tandem paragliding are encouraged to secure tickets online in advance, as availability is limited.
Organized by the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF), renowned for its annual airshow in Clark, Pampanga, and New Clark City, Tarlac, this event continues a legacy spanning nearly three decades. Its core mission remains focused on igniting aviation interest among youth, cultivating discipline among aspiring pilots, and fostering a sense of community volunteerism.
Admission is FREE for all event attendees with tickets for rides and experiences available for purchase via www.balloonfiesta.ph.
