Loakan (Baguio) Airport Reopens to Commercial Flight Operations

After years of being closed to commercial air traffic, the Loakan (Baguio) Airport reopens today as it welcomed the maiden flight from Cebu City.

In coordination with the Baguio City LGU, Philippine Airlines (PAL), Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGROUP), Office for Transportation Security (OTS), and other concerned agencies, CAAP assessed and ensured the readiness of the airport and its facilities to handle commercial operations in accordance with the operational, security, and technical standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) in the months prior to today.

“This accomplishment is a milestone CAAP is determined to provide more to our passengers. We will continue in our work and guarantee that the our passengers can expect that the airport will receive even further developments,” according to Capt. Manuel Tamayo, CAAP Director General.

PAL Flies to Baguio

Philippine Airlines (PAL) has commenced regular services linking Cebu with Baguio City with the operation of the first flights today between the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) and Baguio’s Loakan Airport (BAG).

The pioneer PAL service marks the first direct flight from the City of Pines to the Visayas, and also connects travelers from Baguio to cities all over the Philippines via PAL’s route network from its Cebu Hub gateway.

“Tourist travel is making a comeback, and Philippine Airlines supports the economic recovery through our brand-new Cebu-Baguio service.  We thank all our partners and the travel community for the support in making this momentous event possible. We are happy to be serving Baguio and building up our Cebu Network Hub, so we can fly more Cebuanos and Cordillera residents during the holiday season and beyond into 2023,” said Bud Britanico, Vice-President for Sales of Philippine Airlines.

PAL will fly four times weekly on the Cebu-Baguio-Cebu route with the following schedules:

  • PR 2230 (Cebu-Baguio) every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday departing Mactan Cebu at 08:50 AM; arriving at Baguio Loakan Airport at 10:50 AM;
  • PR 2231 (Baguio-Cebu) every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday departing Baguio at 11:10 AM; arriving in Cebu at 01:00 PM.

Flights between BAG and CEB are operated with De Havilland Dash 8 Series 400 Next Generation aircraft, a high-performance turboprop offering faster speed and jet-like comfort in a quieter cabin.
