Lockheed Martin has reinforced its longstanding partnership with the Philippines by delivering five (05) additional Black Hawk® helicopters to the Philippine Air Force (PAF), further advancing the country’s defense modernization efforts and disaster response capabilities.
The delivery, announced this week, brings the total number of aircraft delivered under the 2022 procurement contract to 15 out of the 32 units ordered. These new helicopters expand the Air Force’s fleet, which already includes 15 previously acquired Black Hawks, providing the Philippines with enhanced versatility in both military and humanitarian missions.
Bill Blair, Vice President and Regional Chief Executive for Asia & India at Lockheed Martin, emphasized the significance of the milestone. “The Sikorsky Black Hawk helicopter’s proven track record in enhancing interoperability and joint readiness, as demonstrated in exercises like Cope Thunder 2025, will continue to drive cooperation and commonality between the United States and the Philippines. The Black Hawk helicopter’s versatility in disaster response, humanitarian aid, and infrastructure protection has been instrumental in amplifying national resilience and advancement, and we are committed to supporting the Philippine Air Force in their mission to protect and serve the Filipino people,” said Blair.
The Black Hawk fleet has already been tested extensively in Philippine operations. During joint training exercises in April, the PAF deployed its helicopters in coordination with the Philippine Navy aboard the BRP Davao del Sur. In May, the aircraft also participated in Cope Thunder Philippines 2025, a major bilateral exercise with the U.S. Air Force, which featured flight and field operations that improved coordination between the two allies.
Beyond defense missions, the Black Hawk has proven indispensable in humanitarian and disaster response operations. The PAF relied heavily on its fleet to transport relief goods and medical supplies to communities devastated by Super Typhoon Ofel, which struck Cagayan province in November. The aircraft were also instrumental in rapid aerial damage assessments, helping authorities identify and respond to the worst-hit areas.
The Black Hawks’ versatility was further demonstrated in November when a massive fire broke out in Tondo, Manila. Equipped for firefighting operations, PAF units conducted helibucket sorties, completing 15 water drops that helped contain the blaze.
With the arrival of these latest helicopters, Lockheed Martin reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Philippines in both defense and humanitarian missions. The company highlighted the Black Hawk’s role not only in bolstering military readiness but also in providing rapid, reliable support during emergencies.
Once all 32 aircraft under the 2022 deal are delivered, the PAF will operate one of the most capable and flexible helicopter fleets in the region, strengthening its position as a vital member of the global community of Black Hawk operators.
