Boeing and Lufthansa Technik have signed a landmark agreement that designates Lufthansa Technik as the first-ever Boeing-licensed Service Center (BLSC) for cabin modifications on B787 Dreamliner airplanes. This collaboration brings additional choice and capacity to the market for airlines and lessors looking to customize the interiors of their Dreamliners.
As a BLSC, Lufthansa Technik is authorized to perform interior modifications on the B787, acting as an external MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) service provider. This expanded service offering allows airlines to leverage Lufthansa Technik’s extensive experience in MRO services and their deep familiarity with the B787 platform.
“We are pleased to bring additional interior modification capacity to B787 owners and operators. Through this novel collaboration, customers will benefit from Lufthansa Technik’s decades of MRO experience and familiarity with the B787 platform,” said Doug Backhus, Vice-President of Boeing Cabins, Modifications and Maintenance.
The agreement empowers airlines and lessors with a wider range of options for customizing their B787 Dreamliner cabins. Lufthansa Technik offers a comprehensive package that includes designing new cabin interiors, providing the necessary engineering, and integrating the modifications according to the client’s specific requirements. In addition, Lufthansa Technik handles the certification process for all modification projects.
“This is a great endorsement from Boeing of Lufthansa Technik’s outstanding cabin modification services. Customers looking to modify the interior of their Dreamliner will be able to find the full range of services from us,” said Harald Gloy, Chief Operating Officer at Lufthansa Technik.
The first B787 cabin modification project under this agreement is anticipated to commence in 2025 at one of Lufthansa Technik’s global MRO facilities. This BLSC designation complements Boeing’s existing B787 Interior Modification offerings, providing increased capacity to meet market demands.
