The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is currently tackling elevated temperatures at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 due to high operational temperatures observed in Chillers 1, 2, and 4. As of yesterday, 22 August 2024, the MIAA took precautionary measures to prevent significant damage to the terminal’s entire cooling system by temporarily shutting down these chillers.
The shutdown allowed for essential maintenance procedures, including descaling, cleaning, and swabbing of the affected chillers. These efforts are crucial to restoring the cooling system to optimal operation.
According to a press release issued by the airport authority this afternoon, cooling fans had already been deployed in strategic areas of NAIA Terminal 3 to alleviate discomfort. However, the MIAA acknowledges the temporary inconvenience this may cause to passengers, employees, and other partners.
The MIAA said that they are working diligently to resolve the issue, with troubleshooting activities expected to be completed by tomorrow, 24 August 2024 morning. Passengers can anticipate improved temperature levels by noontime.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of our T3 users as we work through this necessary troubleshooting process. We humbly advise our T3 users to wear light clothes, bring fans, and stay hydrated to mitigate the expected warm temperature at the terminal,” said MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines.
This issue follows a similar incident last month when repair work on the cooling system at NAIA Terminal 3 caused inconvenience for passengers. After a 12-hour repair, which included the installation of six new cooling towers, comfortable temperatures were restored.
At that time, the MIAA General Manager emphasized that despite the upcoming transition to new management at NAIA, the airport authority remains committed to implementing planned improvements.
