NAIA Terminal 1 Opens Main Arrival Curbside to Public in New Pickup System Overhaul

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 (MNL | RPLL) has introduced a reconfigured pickup system, opening its main arrival curbside to the public for the first time. This move marks a significant shift in accessibility, allowing private vehicles and other transport services to pick up passengers directly at the previously restricted area.

According to a Department of Transportation (DOTr) Press Release, this development aims to streamline passenger flow and ease traffic congestion while enhancing the overall airport experience. The newly accessible curbside, which previously catered exclusively to VIPs, is now available to all travelers and their companions.

Starting with a soft launch on 10 January 2025, passengers and transport providers can explore the restructured system before its full implementation on 12 January 2025. The new operators of the NAIA (New NAIA Infra Corp. — NNIC) emphasized that this trial phase will help gather feedback and address potential issues ahead of the official rollout.

The main arrival curbside now includes 14 designated loading bays, labeled A1 to A14, where private vehicles can conveniently pick up passengers. With this update, arriving travelers no longer need to walk to the ground-level extension area to meet their rides. In addition, Terminal Transfer shuttle buses will operate from a stop near Bay A14, improving connectivity for passengers needing to move between terminals.

The outer curbside, featuring bays B1 to B6, has been designated as an auxiliary pickup zone. This area will house a Meet and Greet Area and Grab ride-hailing booths, both of which are set to open on 12 January 2025. Meanwhile, rent-a-car services, coupon taxis, and yellow metered taxis will now be stationed at the ground-level arrival extension area, further reducing congestion at the main terminal curbside.

Directional signage and on-ground personnel will assist passengers in navigating the updated layout, ensuring a smooth transition. Travelers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the system to enjoy a hassle-free arrival experience.
