PAF S-76A Chopper Crashes in Basilan; 4 Dead

A Sikorsky S-76A (similar to the one in the photo above) rescue helicopter of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) crashed in the province of Basilan at around 1300H today. The incident killed four (04) people in the midst of inclement weather experienced in many parts of Mindanao earlier today.

The fatal incident claimed the lives of two (02) male pilots and two (02) male crewmen happened in Barangay Upper Manggas, Lantawan, Basilan according to the PAF.

According to news reports, the S-76A helicopter departed the Edwin Andrew Air Base (EAAB) at around 1233H and was heading for Jolo, Sulu to pick-up a patient when it crashed in Lantawan, Basilan.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the crash. The Philippine Air Force has nine (09) Sikorsky S-76 in its inventory.
