In a remarkable display of commitment to gender equality, Philippine Airlines (PAL) commemorated International Women’s Day by achieving an aviation milestone: the operation of nine all-female flight teams on a single day.
The celebration unfolded as two flights embarked on journeys to California, one destined for San Francisco and the other for Los Angeles. In addition, female pilots and cabin crew took charge of flights to Sydney, Hanoi, and Jakarta. On domestic routes, all-female deck crews handled flights to Cebu, Tagbilaran, Davao, and Iloilo.
This groundbreaking event not only shattered glass ceilings but also marked the first time PAL featured female pilots across all flight divisions and ranks. The recognition and celebration of the all-female crews underscore PAL’s commitment to empowering women in the aviation industry.
PAL’s dedication to fostering a progressive, inclusive company culture has made it a leader over its 83-year history. In 1993, PAL achieved a significant milestone with the appointment of Capt. Aimee Carandang was its first female pilot and Southeast Asia’s inaugural commercial pilot. Captain Carandang’s historic ascent serves as a powerful testament to PAL’s unwavering support for diversity and inclusivity in the aviation sector.
As the aviation industry continues to evolve, PAL stands as a beacon of empowerment, showcasing that gender equality and women’s empowerment are integral values driving progress within the company.
