PAL Express (PALex), the low-cost subsidiary of flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL), has entered into a long-term partnership with Lufthansa Technik to provide full component support for its Airbus A320 fleet. The agreement, recently signed in Manila, marks a strategic move by the airline to boost its maintenance and operational reliability as it continues to expand its domestic and regional network.
Under the new deal, Lufthansa Technik will handle the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of PALex’s A320 components. The package also includes access to Lufthansa Technik’s extensive global pool of spare parts, along with the establishment of a homebase stock at PALex’s facilities in the Philippines. This ensures that critical aircraft components are readily available to minimize downtime and keep the fleet in active service.

Rabbi Vincent Ang, President of PAL Express, emphasized the significance of the partnership, saying, “We are confident that Lufthansa Technik’s comprehensive component support system will help us maintain operational excellence as we continue to grow and serve our passengers. With its world-class component maintenance, repair and overhaul services, PAL express stands poised to deliver even greater reliability and efficiency to our passengers. The availability of spare parts at our Manila base, backed by access to Lufthansa Technik’s vast pool facilities in Hong Kong, Singapore, Hamburg and Frankfurt, ensures that aircraft are serviced promptly and kept flying.”
The collaboration strengthens an already long-standing relationship between the Lufthansa Technik Group and the Philippine Airlines brand. In a related development, PALex recently inked a separate agreement with Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey to support MRO services for PW150 engines powering its De Havilland Canada Dash 8 regional aircraft.

Jens Michel, Vice President of Corporate Sales for North East Asia at Lufthansa Technik, welcomed the expanded partnership, “We are delighted that PAL express is strengthening its commitment to Lufthansa Technik by choosing us once again—this time to provide component support for their A320s. Leveraging our worldwide network of materials and spare parts pools, we remain committed to delivering outstanding services. As PAL express continues to grow and expand its operations, we are excited to contribute to their success and further enhance our partnership. We look forward to reaching new heights together.”
As PALex continues to serve key domestic and short-haul international destinations, the enhanced technical support is expected to further boost the airline’s competitiveness and operational resilience in the fast-growing Southeast Asian aviation market.
