Philippine Airlines (PAL) is entering a bold new chapter in long-haul aviation as the first of its nine (09) Airbus A350-1000 aircraft is now under assembly at the Airbus facility in Toulouse, France. The milestone highlights the flag carrier’s ambitious fleet modernization program — one that promises to elevate PAL’s global presence and propel Philippine civil aviation to greater heights.
AvGeek Philippines (AvGeekPH) was invited by PAL and Airbus to witness the aircraft in production. The exclusive behind-the-scenes look provided firsthand insight into how this next-generation aircraft is being assembled, section by section, using advanced materials and cutting-edge aerospace technologies.
Currently, the A350-1000’s five main sections — the nose, forward fuselage, center fuselage, rear section, and wings — are being fitted with power, air, and water systems. These components will then move to the final assembly line, where they’ll be integrated with flight control cables, onboard systems, and passenger cabins.
“We’re happy to share with you a glimpse into our very first A350-1000. We’re set to take delivery of the plane in the fourth quarter of 2025. The fleet game-changer will significantly boost PAL’s passenger capacity and reinforce our commitment to delivering world-class service,” according to PAL President Richard Nuttall.
The Airbus A350-1000 is designed for ultra-long-haul routes, capable of flying up to 16,100 kilometers (8,700 nautical miles) nonstop. Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines power it — among the most efficient and quietest engines in commercial aviation. With a maximum seating capacity of 382 passengers across Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy, the aircraft delivers not only range but also comfort, fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions.
“We selected the A350-1000 because it will provide us with the flexibility to balance demand with capacity. The new-generation aircraft are central to responding to the demands of our growing market, regionally and internationally,” said PAL Executive Vice President / Chief Operating Officer Atty. Carlos Luis Fernandez emphasized the strategic importance of the aircraft.
The aircraft observed by AvGeekPH is just the first of nine A350-1000s slated for delivery between 2025 and 2028. In addition, PAL is expecting 13 Airbus A321neo regional jets starting in 2026. With 79 aircraft currently in service, PAL is charting a future that combines efficiency, sustainability, and pride in the skies — flying farther and higher than ever before.
