Philippine Airlines (PAL) is set to revive its seasonal nonstop flights between Manila (MNL | RPLL) and Sapporo (CTS | RJCC), reconnecting the Philippines and Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido. The resumed service will operate from 24 November 2025 to 27 March 2026, offering travelers a convenient way to explore winter destinations in Japan and enjoy seamless air travel during the peak cold season.
The airline will operate three weekly flights — every Monday, Wednesday, and — to New Chitose Airport in Sapporo using its modern Airbus A321neo aircraft. Each flight will feature 168 seats, including 12 in business class and 156 in economy, with in-flight entertainment and Wi-Fi available onboard.
Flight PR 406 will depart Manila at 0630H and arrive in Sapporo at 1215H. The return flight, PR 405, leaves Sapporo at 1315H and arrives in Manila at 1810H. This schedule is designed to offer convenient connections and a smooth travel experience for both Filipino and Japanese passengers.
“We are thrilled to announce the reopening of our direct flights from Manila to Sapporo, which will help us strengthen both bilateral relations and cultural ties with our Japanese counterparts. This route not only provides a convenient travel option for Filipino tourists and overseas workers, but also opens doors for Japanese travelers to explore and experience the Philippines’ vibrant culture and warm hospitality,” according to PAL President Richard Nuttall.
Sapporo is a favorite winter destination known for its world-class ski resorts, culinary delights, and the Sapporo Snow Festival, which showcases impressive snow and ice sculptures. Its popularity among Filipino tourists continues to grow, especially during the colder months.
The Manila-Sapporo service was previously operated by PAL from December 2018 until March 2020, prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its return reflects PAL’s commitment to strengthening its network in Japan and expanding access to sought-after international destinations.
Currently, Philippine Airlines holds the distinction of offering the largest network of routes between the Philippines and Japan, with nonstop flights to Osaka Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Tokyo Haneda, and Tokyo Narita, in addition to direct flights from Cebu to Osaka Kansai and Tokyo Narita.
