Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has officially resumed its highly anticipated seasonal nonstop flights between Manila (MNL) and Sapporo (CTS), offering Filipino and Japanese travelers expanded connectivity just in time for the winter holidays. The season-opening flight, PR 406, departed from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) at 0624H on 24 November 2025, marking the beginning of PAL’s renewed operations to Japan’s northernmost major city.
The Manila–Sapporo service will run until 27 March 2026, providing convenient access to Hokkaido’s famed attractions during its peak travel period. Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, is celebrated for its dynamic urban atmosphere, powder-perfect ski resorts, and cultural highlights such as the world-renowned Sapporo Snow Festival. Travelers can also indulge in the prefecture’s culinary specialties, including Sapporo-style miso ramen, hearty soup curry, and some of Japan’s freshest seafood. With its winter landscapes and festive events, Sapporo has long been a top destination for holidaymakers seeking a unique and immersive seasonal escape.
PAL President Richard Nuttall emphasized that the reinstatement of the route is part of the airline’s commitment to strengthening ties between the Philippines and Japan, “By re-launching this seasonal route, we are opening a gateway for travelers to experience Philippine Airlines’ world-class service, and signature heartfelt hospitality while supporting demand for flights between the two destinations.”
The revival of the Sapporo route also provides greater opportunities for Japanese tourists to visit the Philippines, an increasingly popular destination known for its pristine islands, diverse marine life, and rich cultural heritage. The nonstop connection enhances accessibility for travelers seeking warmer climates during winter months.
Flights to Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport will operate every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday using PAL’s Airbus A321neo aircraft. The 168-seater jet features 12 Business Class seats and 156 Economy seats, complemented by modern inflight entertainment and onboard Wi-Fi connectivity — ensuring a comfortable journey for both business and leisure travelers.
Philippine Airlines continues to maintain the most extensive network between the Philippines and Japan, offering direct services to Osaka Kansai, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Tokyo Haneda, and Tokyo Narita, as well as Cebu-based routes to Osaka Kansai and Tokyo Narita.
To celebrate the inaugural flight’s relaunch, PAL surprised departing passengers with exclusive themed merchandise, adding a festive touch to the opening day festivities.
