Taiwan Excellence Launches LOHAS Lifestyle in the Philippines

Taiwan Excellence has officially brought its Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS) initiative to the Philippines through a three-day event at Ayala Malls Market! Market!, opened on September 12. The launch not only showcased innovative Taiwanese wellness products but also spotlighted the growing importance of sustainable living for today’s mobile and travel-driven lifestyle. Leading the event was Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, now formally introduced as a Taiwan LOHAS Advocate.

For aviation and travel enthusiasts, LOHAS Days carries a unique connection. The initiative emphasizes how technology and health innovations can enhance everyday experiences — whether for frequent flyers, business travelers, or leisure explorers. Taiwan, known globally as the “Bicycle Kingdom” and a top exporter of fitness equipment, is applying the same innovation mindset it uses in transportation and mobility to help people travel healthier and more sustainably.

At the launch, Josephine Shun, Director of the Economic Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, described LOHAS as part of Taiwan’s broader “Healthy Taiwan” vision. She pointed out that health and mobility go hand in hand: “Taiwan is serious about health. Our government is promoting a big vision called Healthy Taiwan. Taiwan is known as the Bicycle Kingdom and one of the top three fitness equipment exporters in the world.”

This ties neatly with travel culture — cycling tours in Taiwan, for example, are popular among international tourists, while fitness and wellness are increasingly seen as vital for long-haul travelers who want to beat jet lag and stay energized during trips.

The event also featured Alex Lai, Director of Taiwan Trade Center Manila, who highlighted how innovation remains at the core of Taiwan Excellence. Seventeen companies showcased more than 30 products, ranging from smart fitness equipment and AI-powered wearables to eco-friendly sports kits and skincare essentials — items that could easily fit into the lifestyle of a modern traveler.

Catriona Gray echoed this sentiment, noting that LOHAS is more than a trend; it’s a way of life that applies to everyone, including those constantly on the move. “Seeing LOHAS being shared here in the Philippines is an empowering reminder that living a healthy, sustainable lifestyle is something we can all embrace,” she said.

For AvGeeks who balance time between airports, cockpits, or aviation events, innovations such as Acer’s Swift Edge 14 AI laptop with multi-day battery life or Makalot’s Motion Tracking Suit for AR/VR hint at how Taiwanese tech can support productivity and wellness while traveling. Even leisure-driven products like Giant’s XTC SLR 29 bike or FECA’s portable basketball kit appeal to those seeking balance between adventure and relaxation during layovers or destination trips.

LOHAS Days was packed with fitness classes — spin, yoga, and body combat — demonstrating how wellness can be integrated into daily routines, just as frequent travelers integrate aviation into their lives.

Looking ahead, Taiwan Excellence will extend this advocacy at Taiwan Expo 2025, happening on September 17–19 at the SMX Convention Center. Visitors can explore the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion, where themes like Comfortable Life, Smart City, and Greener Future will resonate strongly with the aviation community’s ongoing conversations on sustainability and smarter travel.

For Filipino travelers and AvGeeks, Taiwan’s LOHAS initiative is a reminder: sustainable living isn’t just about lifestyle choices at home, but also about how we travel, explore new destinations, and shape the future of mobility.
