United Airlines is taking onboard safety demonstrations to a whole new level with the debut of its creative new video, “Safety in Motion.” This engaging video ditches the traditional format and features a captivating journey through a life-sized, airplane-inspired sequential reaction machine.
“Safety in Motion” isn’t just about entertainment; it’s about clear and effective communication of critical safety procedures. The video showcases more than a dozen real United employees from various departments, including pilots, flight attendants, and customer service agents, demonstrating essential safety measures in a fun and memorable way.
This innovative concept was ten months in the making, with development beginning in June 2023. The airline collaborated closely with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) throughout the process to ensure all safety requirements were met. The result? 171 customized versions of the video catering to United’s diverse fleet of aircraft, seat configurations, and a whopping 18 languages!
“Safety is the foundation of everything we do at United. Safety starts with being prepared. We have ongoing, rigorous safety training for our crews. And we also make sure our customers know what to do in the event of an emergency. We are proud that our new safety video empowers passengers by giving them information and clear instructions,” according to Sasha Johnson, Vice President of Corporate Safety for United.
A Cinematic Safety Experience
The video takes viewers on a captivating journey through a series of airplane-themed contraptions. A ball acts as the guide, rolling and bouncing its way through scenarios that showcase proper life vest usage, emergency exits, stowing carry-on luggage, and more. This dynamic approach is designed to grab the attention of even the most frequent fliers, ensuring they retain crucial safety information.
United Airlines prioritizes passenger safety above all else. The airline’s commitment goes beyond this new video; it’s ingrained in their company culture. United flight attendants and pilots undergo rigorous training programs that are regularly updated. Their recently expanded Flight Training Center in Denver boasts state-of-the-art facilities and simulators, providing unparalleled training opportunities for their pilots. In addition, United’s annual Pilot Professional Development program ensures all pilots, not just captains, receive comprehensive training focused on self-awareness, leadership, and critical decision-making.
“Safety in Motion” begins its rollout on select United Airlines flights starting 25 May 2024. Passengers can expect to see this engaging video on various aircraft throughout the summer. So, the next time you fly United, get ready for a safety briefing that’s informative, entertaining, and truly unique.
