United Airlines has announced the launch of daily nonstop flights between Guam and Tokyo Haneda International Airport, with operations set to commence on 01 May 2024, pending government approval. This new air route is designed to establish a more direct link between Guam and the Japanese capital, capitalizing on the strategic location of the Haneda airport in close proximity to Tokyo’s city center. United’s latest offering expands on its existing 32 weekly flights connecting Guam and Tokyo-Narita, with ticket sales set to commence tonight.
The airline has chosen to deploy a Boeing B737-800 aircraft for this route, boasting a capacity for 166 passengers, including 16 business class seats. The daily flight is scheduled to depart from Guam at 1900H local time, reaching Haneda at 2200H on the same day. For the return leg, the flight will take off from Haneda at 2355H, touching down in Guam at 0445H the following day.
“As we grow our global network, we’re always looking for opportunities to give our customers more choice and strengthen links between countries. This route — connecting Tokyo’s most convenient airport with our unique Guam hub — accomplishes just that. I appreciate the support of the Department of Transportation in recognizing the importance of this route to our customers and stakeholders,” according to Patrick Quayle, United’s Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances.
With a dominant presence in Guam, United Airlines holds the position of the largest airline on the island, operating more than 87 weekly flights to 14 destinations. Having served Guam for over 55 years, United stands as the sole carrier operating flights between Guam and Japanese cities such as Osaka, Fukuoka, and Nagoya, in addition to several islands in the Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, and Palau.
This latest route addition brings United’s total daily flights from Haneda to six, connecting to New York/Newark, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and now Guam. Furthermore, United operates 10 daily flights to Tokyo’s Narita airport, linking destinations such as New York/Newark, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Guam, and Saipan. Notably, United Airlines stands out as the U.S. carrier offering the most extensive seat capacity from the United States to Tokyo.
