United Airlines, already the largest U.S. carrier covering both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, has further strengthened its presence in the Asia-Pacific region by announcing the addition of more flights. In a groundbreaking move, United becomes the first U.S. airline to offer direct flights to Manila from the continental U.S., while also introducing more non-stop options to Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Taipei. Commencing in October 2023, these new flights are set to bolster the airline’s long-haul flights to 15 different international destinations across the Pacific this winter, cementing United’s position as the dominant transpacific carrier.
The expansion marks a significant milestone in United’s international network growth strategy. Earlier this year, the airline achieved the most extensive South Pacific network expansion in aviation history, increasing flights between the U.S. and Australia/New Zealand by an impressive 40%. Moreover, this summer, United’s Atlantic operations soared to new heights, boasting a schedule 32% larger than in 2019, surpassing that of any other U.S. carrier by 10%.
“United offers more flights to more destinations across the Pacific than all other U.S. airlines combined. As the flag carrier of the U.S., we are excited to bring this new service to Manila while expanding access to Hong Kong, Taipei, and Tokyo,” according to Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances at United, expressing his enthusiasm for the airline’s achievements.
Starting 29 October 2023, United will pioneer non-stop transpacific flights between San Francisco and Manila, making it the sole U.S. airline offering this service. The airline already distinguishes itself by serving Manila from Guam and Palau, further consolidating its standing in the region. The new daily route to Manila will operate on United’s largest airplane, the Boeing 777-300ER, ensuring a comfortable and efficient travel experience for passengers.
In a bid to enhance connectivity between the United States and Hong Kong, United will commence new service between Los Angeles and Hong Kong on 28 October 2023, augmenting its existing services from San Francisco. Additionally, the airline will resume non-stop flights between Los Angeles and Tokyo/Narita, complementing its present service between Los Angeles and Tokyo-Haneda. Furthermore, customers will enjoy improved travel options between San Francisco and Taipei, as United introduces a second daily year-round service.
The airline has already made tickets available for purchase on United.com and the United app, anticipating high demand for these exciting new flight routes.
With its latest expansion, United Airlines solidifies its position as the dominant transpacific carrier and takes another stride towards providing unparalleled connectivity between the U.S. and key destinations in the Asia-Pacific region. Travelers can look forward to enhanced options and seamless journeys as United continues to shape the future of international air travel.
