Cebu Pacific (CEB | 5J) has achieved another key milestone in its environmental initiatives by becoming the first airline carrier to utilize bridge mounted equipment at Clark International Airport (CRK). This operational adoption marks a significant expansion of the airline’s overarching push to establish more sustainable ground operations across its network. Beginning in October 2026, Cebu Pacific has routinely drawn upon the specialized infrastructure installed directly by Luzon International Premiere Airport Development Corporation (LIPAD), the operational manager of the Clark aviation facility. This newly integrated system is designed to supply both electricity and conditioned cooling air directly into aircraft that are stationary and parked at the boarding gate. By taking advantage of this direct connection, the carrier effectively eliminates the need to continuously run an aircraft’s jet fuel-powered auxiliary power unit while on the apron.

The primary advantage of utilizing airport-supplied power and cooling systems lies in the substantial reduction of fuel burn while aircraft are waiting between flights. By curbing the operation of onboard auxiliary power units, airlines are able to dramatically decrease overall ground emissions as well as lessen ambient noise levels surrounding the gate area. Speaking on the strategic deployment of the facility, Lei Apostol, Cebu Pacific Vice-President for Customer Service Operations said, “Cebu Pacific fully supports Clark International Airport’s APU OFF initiatives as part of our commitment to more sustainable operations. By reducing our reliance on onboard power generation while aircraft are parked, we can help lower fuel consumption and emissions. We are proud to be the first airline to use this airport facility at Clark.” Her statement highlights the airline’s broader operational philosophy aimed at minimizing ecological impacts during turnarounds.

From the airport management perspective, LIPAD Corporation emphasized that introducing this equipment aligns seamlessly with its localized sustainability roadmap to trim unnecessary fuel use, atmospheric emissions, and acoustic disruption at the air terminal. Expressing appreciation for the airline partner’s proactive participation, Noel Manankil, President and CEO of LIPAD, remarked, “The operation of our new Bridge Mounted Equipment (BME) is inline with CRK’s commitment to a more sustainable operations and help our airline partners reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. We are grateful for Cebu Pacific’s support for this initiative.” The collaborative venture reinforces how airport authorities and scheduled airlines can jointly address carbon footprints through modernized terminal infrastructure.

This recent implementation at Clark International Airport follows Cebu Pacific’s earlier adoption of similar bridge mounted equipment at Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA | CEB) in 2024, where the carrier likewise made history as the initial airline operator to utilize the facility. Beyond bridge mounted setups, Cebu Pacific has progressively deployed an array of electric ground support equipment, specialized ground power units, and external air-cooling units across major Philippine hubs, including both Mactan-Cebu International Airport and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA | MNL) in Manila. These combined technologies significantly lower localized carbon emissions and reduce heavy dependency on aircraft auxiliary power units during ground servicing. Through these sustained investments and close cooperation with regional airport management partners, Cebu Pacific continues to enhance ground service efficiency while actively reducing its operational environmental footprint across a broad network that encompasses 35 domestic and 26 international destinations spanning Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
