The Philippines reaffirmed its pivotal role in advancing regional air cooperation as it hosted the 23rd ASEAN Air Chiefs’ Conference (AACC) on 09 September 2026. Centered around the theme “Forging Interoperable and Integrated ASEAN Air Forces: Unified Action for Regional Stability,” the high-level virtual gathering underscored the growing importance of collective defense perspectives and seamless integration among Southeast Asian air operators. The conference was conducted via Video Teleconference (VTC), with the Philippine Air Force (PAF) hosting the Philippine component of the event at the prestigious PAF Museum inside Colonel Jesus Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.
The proceedings were chaired by Lieutenant General Arthur M Cordura PAF, Commanding General of the Philippine Air Force. Under his leadership, the conference featured a comprehensive exchange of views among ASEAN Air Chiefs on critical matters of mutual interest and regional security. Enhancing the event’s diplomatic presence on the ground, several Defense Attachés and Embassy representatives from ASEAN member states were physically present at the venue inside Villamor Air Base.
Serving as a premier venue for high-level military dialogue, the conference provided a constructive platform for the region’s Air Chiefs to share perspectives and discuss concrete areas of strategic cooperation. These talks aimed to strengthen ongoing professional engagement, elevate operational interoperability, and reinforce overall regional security. As part of the formal proceedings, the event concluded with the symbolic transition of leadership. The AACC Chairship was officially handed over from the Philippines to Malaysia, which will lead the conference for AACC 2027. During the physical ceremony in Pasay City, Lieutenant General Cordura handed the Chairship to Colonel Jafri Ahmad Zulaydi, the Malaysian Defense Attaché to the Philippines, who accepted on behalf of incoming AACC Chairman General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Haji Muhamad Norazlan bin Aris, Chief of Air Force, Royal Malaysian Air Force. Concurrently, Colonel Michael F Lugtu (MI) PA (GSC), the Philippine Defense Attaché to Malaysia, represented the Philippines in the matching handover ceremony presented directly to the Malaysian Air Chief through the VTC setup.
The successful hosting of the 23rd AACC highlights the Philippine Air Force’s enduring role in driving air force-to-air force engagement across the ASEAN bloc.
