Vietjet Air Expands Fleet with Landmark Order for 20 A330neo

Vietjet Air has formalized its commitment to acquire twenty (20) A330-900 widebody aircraft from Airbus by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This historic agreement marks Vietjet’s inaugural foray into the widebody aircraft category, signifying a strategic move to enhance its operational capabilities and meet the demands of its expanding long-range network and high-capacity regional services.

The A330-900s are poised to replace Vietjet’s existing fleet of leased A330-300s while simultaneously catering to the airline’s plans for network expansion. The selection of the A330neo is underpinned by its cutting-edge features, including the award-winning Airspace cabin. Passengers can anticipate a unique travel experience characterized by an elevated level of comfort, spacious interiors, enhanced overhead bins, innovative lighting systems, and access to state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems.

“The new A330neo aircraft is a strategic addition to comprehensively modernize Vietjet’s fleet, enhancing operational capabilities to support our global flight network expansion plan. Its fuel-efficient new-generation design aligns with our sustainable development strategy and ESG goals, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050. With the introduction of the A330neo, passengers can look forward to longer-range, well-equipped flights with excellent services at more competitive fares,” according to Vietjet Chief Executive Officer Dinh Viet Phuong.

Bolstering the A330-900’s performance is the formidable Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engine, a testament to the aircraft’s capability to cover non-stop distances of 7,200 nautical miles (13,300 kilometers). As of the end of January 2024, the A330 Family has secured an impressive 1,771 firm orders from over 130 global customers, underscoring its status as a preferred choice in the aviation industry.

Vietjet’s strategic move to integrate the A330neo into its fleet not only positions the airline for heightened operational efficiency but also underlines its commitment to delivering an unparalleled flying experience for its passengers. The agreement represents a milestone for both Vietjet Air and Airbus, solidifying their partnership in advancing the airline’s capabilities and contributing to the evolution of the global aviation landscape.

“We are excited to work with Vietjet on the next phase of the carrier’s expansion. The A330neo will enable the airline to achieve the lowest possible operating costs per seat and to continue to offer its customers the best possible value wherever they fly. It will also be the perfect complement to the A321XLRs already on order with the airline, as it spreads its wings to more far-flung destinations,” said Christian Scherer, CEO of the Commercial Aircraft business of Airbus.
