Embraer Honored with von Karman Award for International Cooperation in Aeronautics

Embraer, the global aerospace company headquartered in Brazil, has been awarded the prestigious von Karman Award for International Cooperation in Aeronautics by the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS). The award ceremony took place during the 34th ICAS Congress held from 9 to 13 September 2024 in Florence, Italy.

Established in 1980, the von Karman Award recognizes exceptional achievements in the field of aeronautics that have advanced technology, science, or societal benefits through international collaboration. This year, Embraer was lauded for its groundbreaking work in “Aeroelastic Tailoring,” a project that has seen significant contributions from renowned research centers across multiple countries.

The “Aeroelastic Tailoring” project focuses on overcoming key challenges associated with composite structures and validating methods to design more efficient, lighter, and lower-emission aircraft for the future. This innovative endeavor brought together experts from various fields to develop new theories, computational methods, and experimental procedures aimed at advancing sustainable aviation. The project was led by Pedro Higino de Passos Cabral from Embraer’s engineering team.

“It is an honor to attend this event and witness our team and partners being awarded for the Aeroelastic Tailoring Cooperation program. This initiative has united our talented team with the global scientific community to create innovative theories and methods that are crucial for the future of sustainable aviation. Congratulations to everyone involved in this remarkable achievement,” said Cleiton Silva, Vice President of Technology and Advanced Projects at Embraer.

Founded in 1969, Embraer has delivered over 9,000 aircraft and is the world’s leading manufacturer of commercial jets with up to 150 seats. The company’s diverse portfolio spans Commercial and Executive aviation, Defense and Security, and Agricultural Aviation. Embraer has a global presence, with industrial units, offices, service centers, and parts distribution facilities across the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Every 10 seconds, an Embraer aircraft takes off somewhere in the world, carrying over 150 million passengers annually. The company continues to be a pioneer in aviation technology and a significant contributor to Brazil’s high-value exports.

This award not only highlights Embraer’s commitment to innovation but also emphasizes the importance of global cooperation in advancing the field of aeronautics.
