Asia Digital Engineering’s Mega Hangar Takes Flight: Malaysia’s Largest Aircraft Maintenance Facility Opens

Asia Digital Engineering (ADE), the MRO subsidiary of Capital A, has officially launched Malaysia’s most expansive aircraft maintenance hangar, featuring 14 lines and cutting-edge facilities. This landmark achievement reinforces ADE’s leadership in the ASEAN MRO sector.

Spanning over 380,000 square feet within KLIA Aeropolis, the hangar boasts specialized workshops for composite repair, sheet metalwork, upholstery, cabin interiors, and even 3D printing for aircraft livery. Additionally, a Digital Product Development Centre further solidifies ADE’s position as a comprehensive MRO provider.

The facility has been recognized with three national records by the Malaysia Book of Records, highlighting its architectural and engineering prowess. This recognition underscores Malaysia’s growing prominence in the global aerospace industry.

“We are incredibly proud of ADE’s achievement. The new hangar is not just a facility; it represents our vision for the future of MRO in Asia with our ambitions to disrupt and become the leading provider in South East Asia and beyond. In just four years since ADE’s inception, we have built the competencies and facilities necessary to become a leader in this segment. With Malaysia’s strategic location and our investment in cutting-edge technology, ADE is set to revolutionize the MRO landscape, offering innovative, efficient, and cost-effective solutions in the region. This facility will enhance our capability to provide top-notch value and services to AirAsia and other airlines. This growth is also crucial in supporting AirAsia’s ambitious goal of operating 300 aircraft within five years. This milestone firmly places Malaysia on the map as a world-leading MRO provider,” according to Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A.

To further capitalize on its expansion, ADE is actively exploring additional land acquisition within the KLIA area for future MRO development. With over two decades of experience servicing AirAsia, ADE is extending its expertise to attract third-party airlines, offering a range of services for various aircraft models.

Subashini Silvadas, CEO of Capital Aviation Services (CAPAS), echoed this sentiment, stating that the hangar’s launch is a pivotal moment for ADE and the broader CAPAS portfolio. She reaffirmed CAPAS’s commitment to establishing itself as Asia’s leading aviation service provider.

The company has recently secured approval for EASA and AMO in multiple countries, with plans for further expansion. A significant US$100 million investment from OCP Asia Ltd. in 2023 has substantially boosted ADE’s next growth phase.

Mahesh Kumar, CEO of ADE, emphasized the hangar’s timely completion to meet surging demand for MRO services. He also highlighted the facility’s contribution to job creation and talent development in Malaysia.
