The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) has officially initiated the detailed design phase for the Clark International Airport (CRK) second runway project. Following a rigorous competitive bidding process, the BCDA awarded the detailed engineering design contract to a joint venture between Schema Konsult Inc. and South Korea’s Yooshin Engineering Corp. The investment for this design phase is valued at PHP206.9 million, a clear indicator of the government’s commitment to high-standard infrastructure.
The joint venture will be responsible for mapping out the technical specifications required to integrate a secondary runway into the existing airside infrastructure. This phase is expected to wrap up by the second quarter of 2027, paving the way for the actual construction phase and ensuring that all environmental and structural standards are met before ground is broken.
Operational Redundancy and Reliability
For any major international airport, a single runway represents a single point of failure. If an aircraft experiences a mechanical issue on the strip or if maintenance is required, the entire airport can grind to a halt.
