Filipino travelers and the local aviation community have a new reason to look toward the South Pacific. Solomon Airlines (IE) has announced a strategic network expansion that significantly improves travel options between Manila and Honiara, positioning the Philippine capital as a key feeder point for its latest international route.
The centerpiece of this expansion is the launch of a new weekly service between Honiara (HIR) and Port Moresby (POM), scheduled to commence on 30 June 2026. While the route physically links the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea, its flight timings have been specifically engineered to cater to major Asian hubs, with Manila standing out as a primary beneficiary of these streamlined connections.
Optimized Schedule for the Manila Traveler

The new Tuesday service creates a seamless transit experience for those flying out of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA | MNL). By leveraging existing regional links into Port Moresby, passengers from Manila can now access the Solomon Islands with unprecedented ease.
The return leg of the service is particularly advantageous:
- Departure from Port Moresby: 1200H
- Arrival in Honiara: Same-day arrival
- Connectivity: The schedule is designed to capture passengers arriving in Port Moresby from Manila, Hong Kong, and Singapore, allowing for a smooth transfer to the Honiara-bound flight.
This move effectively reduces the total travel time for Filipinos and expatriates based in the Philippines, who previously had to endure more complex routings through Australia or other Pacific gateways.
Strengthening Asia-Pacific Ties
The expansion comes alongside Solomon Airlines’ appointment of TK Aviation Service as its General Sales Agent (GSA) in China. While the GSA is based in Guangzhou, the broader strategy is clear: Solomon Airlines is aggressively pursuing the Asian market. By linking its network to hubs like Port Moresby, the airline is creating a “North-South” corridor that brings the Philippines closer to the heart of the Pacific.
Matthew Findlay, CEO of Solomon Airlines, highlighted that this milestone is about more than just numbers — it is about accessibility. He noted that the new service creates seamless connections for travelers, opening up fresh opportunities for tourism and trade between Asia and the Solomon Islands.
A New Frontier for Filipino Divers and Adventurers
For the Philippine travel market — already home to a massive community of diving enthusiasts — the Solomon Islands offers a compelling new “bucket list” destination. Renowned for its world-class WWII shipwrecks, pristine coral reefs, and untouched cultural landscapes, the archipelago provides an exotic alternative to the traditional regional circuits.
Beyond tourism, the improved connectivity via Port Moresby also benefits the Filipino workforce and business community operating within the Pacific islands, strengthening the economic ties between Manila and the Melanesian region.
