After a seven-year hiatus that left a massive void in the market, the Fort Worth-based carrier successfully launched its first nonstop flight from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Caracas (CCS), marking a new chapter in diplomatic and commercial relations.
The historic return was inaugurated by Flight 3599 on 30 April 2026, which pushed back from the gate at Miami International Airport at 1011H local time. The atmosphere at the terminal was one of celebration, as American Airlines staff and local officials gathered at the gate to welcome passengers boarding the milestone flight.
The flight was doubly significant as it served as the inaugural journey for American’s special America250 livery aircraft. This patriotic paint scheme, designed to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, provided a visually striking backdrop for the resumption of a route that has been dormant since 2019.
Strengthening the Latin American Gateway
This resumption reinforces American Airlines’ position as the dominant carrier between the U.S. and Latin America. The airline first established its presence in Venezuela back in 1987, serving the nation for over three decades before regional challenges forced a suspension of operations. During those 30 years, American was the primary bridge for businesses, families, and communities moving between the two nations.
The return to Caracas is the result of extensive coordination between aviation authorities and high-ranking government officials. Key figures, including U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, were instrumental in navigating the regulatory and diplomatic requirements necessary to reopen this vital air corridor.

For the initial phase of the relaunch, American is utilizing the Envoy-operated Embraer 175 (E175). Travelers on this route will enjoy a dedicated premium cabin service, designed to provide enhanced comfort and a more exclusive atmosphere for those flying in the front of the aircraft.
In addition to the upgraded seating options, the aircraft is equipped with modern connectivity features to meet the demands of today’s business and leisure travelers. This includes free Wi-Fi throughout the cabin, currently sponsored by AT&T, ensuring passengers stay connected over the Caribbean. Demand for the route is already proving robust. To accommodate the anticipated surge in travelers, American Airlines has confirmed that a second daily service between Miami and Caracas will begin on May 21. This expansion will also be operated by Envoy Air using the E175, doubling the capacity and providing more flexible travel windows for passengers connecting through MIA to the rest of American’s global network.
