Cebu Pacific Sets New Benchmark for Sustainability in Global Aviation Assessment

Cebu Pacific (5J) has solidified its position as a regional leader in aviation sustainability. In the latest S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), the airline was recognized as one of the world’s top-performing carriers, marking a significant milestone for Philippine aviation.

Ranking within the top 25% of airlines globally, Cebu Pacific achieved a score of 47, significantly outperforming the industry average of 37. This score also places the airline ahead of many of its international low-cost carrier peers. The S&P Global CSA is a rigorous annual evaluation that gauges how companies manage their environmental impact, foster employee and community welfare, and uphold ethical business practices.

According to Aileen Isidro, Cebu Pacific Vice President for Corporate Strategy and Risk Officer, the airline is maintaining a disciplined and proactive approach to sustainability while simultaneously expanding its footprint. She noted that the improved CSA score is a direct result of embedding sustainability into the core of the airline’s growth, operations, and governance.

The airline’s performance in 2025 highlights a rare balance between rapid expansion and environmental responsibility. During that year, Cebu Pacific served nearly 27 million passengers and operated more than 170,000 flights. Despite this high volume of activity, the carrier successfully avoided approximately 35,000 tonnes of carbon emissions and saved roughly 11,000 tonnes of jet fuel.

Operational Efficiency & Carbon Impact

Cebu Pacific’s environmental performance is underscored by its impressive sustainability metrics from the past year. By achieving a CSA score of 47 against an industry average of 37, the airline has demonstrated that its green initiatives are yielding tangible results. Central to this success is the saving of 11,000 tonnes of jet fuel, which directly contributed to avoiding 35,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. These figures reflect a highly efficient operation that prioritizes resource conservation even during periods of high demand.

The airline has managed to lower its carbon intensity to 75.7 grams of CO2 per revenue passenger kilometer (RPK). This achievement is particularly noteworthy as it signifies that the airline is becoming cleaner on a per-passenger basis, decoupling its business growth from its environmental footprint. These gains are largely attributed to the continuous modernization of the fleet and the implementation of smarter flight deck practices.

A cornerstone of Cebu Pacific’s strategy is its fleet modernization program. Looking ahead, the carrier remains committed to its goal of operating an all-NEO (New Engine Option) fleet by 2030. These aircraft are significantly more fuel-efficient and quieter than previous generations, representing the cutting edge of narrow-body technology. Additionally, the airline is transitioning to electric ground support equipment (GSE) across major Philippine airports to further minimize its carbon footprint on the ground.

Social Responsibility & Governance

Beyond environmental metrics, the S&P Global CSA recognizes Cebu Pacific’s commitment to its workforce. The airline is a leader in gender diversity, with women occupying 51% of management roles — a figure that surpasses the Philippine national average of 44%. The carrier has also doubled down on employee engagement, mental health support, and specialized training to ensure a resilient workforce.

From a governance perspective, the airline has implemented enhanced anti-corruption measures and strict compliance systems. This transparent approach to business has trickled down to the passenger experience. The airline’s Net Promoter Score (NPS) rose to +35, a seven-point increase from the previous year, reflecting improved satisfaction in boarding, baggage handling, and in-flight services.
