The Philippine aviation landscape is getting a significant boost in regional connectivity as Leading Edge Air Services Corporation (LEASCOR), officially takes delivery of its first Cessna SkyCourier. Designed and manufactured by Textron Aviation Inc., a Textron Inc. company, the twin-engine, high-wing turboprop has formally entered service in the country. This milestone delivery aims to expand passenger and cargo connectivity across the vast island communities of the Philippines using a highly versatile and mission-ready aircraft platform.

The newly delivered aircraft to LEASCOR, which operates as the air chartering arm and a wholly owned subsidiary of the ACDI Multipurpose Cooperative, is a 19-passenger variant. Crucially, it comes equipped with an optional passenger-to-freighter conversion kit. This unique configuration gives operators the flexibility to transition swiftly between full passenger layouts and full cargo configurations, directly supporting domestic transport, localized tourism, and vital logistics operations across the archipelago.

According to Juan Escalante, Vice-President of SkyCourier Sales, the ability to shift seamlessly between passenger and cargo missions remains a critical capability for operators dedicated to serving remote and regional markets. He noted that the Cessna SkyCourier provides a dependable, versatile platform that empowers operators to respond quickly to changing transportation needs while maintaining high operational efficiency.

Engineered specifically for dependable performance in rugged environments, the SkyCourier combines a generous payload capacity with excellent short takeoff and landing performance. Its design features a large cargo door to support efficient loading processes, while the fixed landing gear and powerful Pratt and Whitney Canada PT6A-65SC engines contribute to long-term durability and operational confidence across various challenging mission profiles. This makes it an ideal fit for LEASCOR, which was established in 2016 to serve members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other uniformed personnel, including active service members, retirees, reservists, and civilian employees.

Expressing great optimism for the fleet expansion, Major General Gilbert S. Llanto (Ret., Armed Forces of the Philippines), stated that the arrival of their first Cessna SkyCourier marks a defining milestone for Leading Edge Air Services Corporation. He emphasized that the aircraft strengthens their ability to provide reliable air connectivity to communities that depend heavily on consistent passenger and cargo services, particularly in remote areas. He further explained that the purpose-built versatility, twin-engine reliability, high payload capacity, and the ability to operate on short and unpaved runways are what make the SkyCourier invaluable. He added that the aircraft will strengthen LEASCOR’s capability to open underserved routes, enhance logistics, and support regional economies, allowing them to respond faster, serve farther, and operate more efficiently toward a resilient, future-ready aviation network.

Globally, the Cessna SkyCourier offers a strong combination of high performance and low operating costs for air freight, commuter, and special mission operators. Textron offers the aircraft in two primary variants — freighter and passenger — alongside optional conversion kits, including a Combi configuration that accommodates up to nine passengers while simultaneously carrying freight.

The dedicated freighter variant is specifically sized to handle up to three LD3 shipping containers with a total payload capacity of 6,000 pounds. Meanwhile, the 19-passenger variant features large cabin windows to maximize natural light and views for travelers. Both versions benefit from single-point pressure refueling to enable faster airport turnarounds, and they feature two crew doors along with a large side door used for cargo loading or passenger boarding.

Powering the SkyCourier are two wing-mounted Pratt and Whitney Canada engines paired with the McCauley Propeller C779, a heavy-duty, 110-inch aluminum four-blade propeller that features full feathering with reversible pitch to maximize performance while hauling heavy loads. Managed via advanced Garmin G1000 NXi avionics, the SkyCourier clocks a maximum cruise speed of more than 200 knots true airspeed and boasts a maximum range of 900 nautical miles.
