Federal Express Corporation (FedEx), one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, has officially appointed Garrick Thompson as the new managing director of FedEx Philippines. In his new role, Thompson takes the helm of a dedicated local team of over 1,300 employees. His primary operational focus will center on driving operational excellence, enhancing the overall customer experience, and supporting Philippine businesses as they expand their global reach through cross-border trade. Furthermore, Thompson will oversee the critical Asia Pacific Trade Facilitation Center, a key hub that manages customs clearance, trade compliance, and essential cargo documentation across Asia Pacific, the United States, Canada, and Europe.
This executive appointment marks a homecoming for the FedEx veteran, who returns to the Philippines after serving as the Managing Director of FedEx Indonesia for over five years. Thompson’s career with the logistics giant spans nearly two decades, having first joined the company in New Zealand back in 2007. Since starting his journey with the express transportation provider, he has successfully held various key leadership roles spanning human resources, operations, and sales. On the academic side, he holds a bachelor’s degree in management studies, majoring in Strategic Management and Human Resources from the University of Waikato.
Thompson brings a strong track record of success back to the Philippine market, where he previously delivered significant business results. Among his notable achievements during his earlier tenure in the country are driving significant revenue growth and expanding the company’s customer base while serving as senior sales manager for FedEx Philippines. His leadership capabilities and operational contributions have also been recognized at the corporate level. He is a recipient of the prestigious Five Star Award, which stands as the company’s highest honor recognizing exceptional leadership, business impact, and commitment to teamwork.
The leadership transition comes at a pivotal moment as the global express transport company continues to strengthen its air cargo and logistics presence across the archipelago. With over 40 years of commitment to the Philippines, FedEx plays a vital role in supporting trade and e-commerce growth, actively connecting businesses of all sizes to customers and opportunities across more than 220 countries and territories through its integrated transportation and logistics network.
Looking ahead, Thompson will be instrumental in steering the company’s strategic trajectory and capital commitments in the country. As managing director, Thompson will oversee the company’s continued investments in the Philippines, including the expansion of its Clark facility, a key transshipment gateway that strengthens regional connectivity and supports the company’s broader Southeast Asia growth strategy. Through the expansion of major air freight gateways like Clark, FedEx aims to further reinforce the country’s position as a vital hub for international commerce and regional air cargo operations.
